I recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at Miller and Carter Steakhouse in Bristol for breakfast, and I can confidently say it was one of the best mornings I’ve had in a long time—thanks largely to the incredible Rokshana from the breakfast team. Nestled in the heart of Bristol City Centre within the Marriott Royal Hotel, this steakhouse already has a stellar reputation for its food, but it’s the service, particularly from Rokshana, that truly elevates the experience to something unforgettable.
From the moment I walked in, Rokshana greeted me with a warm, genuine smile that instantly made me feel welcomed. The restaurant itself is a beautiful space—elegant yet cozy, with natural light streaming in and a relaxed buzz of morning conversation—but it’s the personal touch she brought that stood out. She guided me to my table with such care and enthusiasm, making sure I had everything I needed to settle in comfortably.
I opted for the Power Up Breakfast—Scottish smoked salmon, smashed avocado, poached eggs, baby spinach, and toasted sourdough—and it was divine. But what made it even better was Rokshana’s attentiveness. She checked in just enough to ensure I was happy without ever feeling intrusive, and when I asked about the menu, her knowledge and passion shone through. She recommended pairing it with their freshly squeezed orange juice, which was the perfect zesty complement to the rich flavors of the dish. It’s clear she takes pride in what she does, and her recommendations made my meal even more enjoyable.
Throughout my visit, Rokshana’s energy was infectious. She moved through the restaurant with grace and efficiency, ensuring every guest felt looked after. I noticed her stopping to chat with a family nearby, offering a thoughtful suggestion for their little one’s breakfast, and later helping an older couple with a cheerful explanation of the Eggs Royale. Her ability to connect with everyone, all while keeping the service seamless, is nothing short of remarkable. The plates were cleared promptly, the coffee refilled without me even asking, and the entire experience felt effortless—thanks to her.
The food itself was outstanding—perfectly poached eggs, fresh ingredients, and that signature Miller and Carter quality—but Rokshana turned a great meal into a memorable moment. She’s a true gem on the breakfast team, embodying warmth, professionalism, and a genuine care for every guest. It’s rare to find someone who makes you feel so valued as a customer, and I left with a smile, already looking forward to my next visit.
If you’re in Bristol and craving a breakfast that’s as delightful as the service, head to Miller and Carter and hope Rokshana’s on shift. She’s an absolute superstar, and her dedication makes all the difference. Five stars aren’t enough—this is a must-visit, and Rokshana deserves all the praise for making...
Read moreWe pre-booked brunch and the email warned the establishment reserves the right to "enforce" denying entry for inappropriate wear. We then received a further message to warn us they require business casual attire. Bit over the top with the "warnings" and "encouragements" but we thought Fine and dressed up, expecting a concierge and a coat room, as well as a clean restaurant full of smartly dressed people.
We arrived at a mostly dead place with a very flustered and disheveled staff and lots of messy, empty tables. The people who were having food there were walking around casually dressed in literal gym clothes and pyjamas (as they came from the hotel) yet we received so many warnings about our attire when we booked with a rather demanding tone of voice. They did apologise as they have "just had a morning rush". Still, it was disappointing to see our table was dirty, and so were the cutlery and crockery on it. When they brought my "latte", it was half spilled, in a stained cup and with no milk foam either.
The special request we had with our booking was also ignored - we asked for a table in a corner, as one of us struggled with anxiety. Instead , we were put in a truly unpleasant location in the centre of everything and way too close to another table of people. As a reminder, the restaurant was mostly empty when we came in.
The cherry on top was that the french toast I ordered was not crispy at all, it was barely dipped in egg, the sides were just dry bread, and it was overall gummy and barely cooked, with zero browning, oh and it was covered in watery yoghurt and sour fruits. The kind of food I expect in a pub grub type place.
I think our mistake was thinking a steakhouse can do good brunch and thinking a hotel-adjacent restaurant can really be "high end". Despite my poor experience I only take one star off because we've not been there for a steak dinner so haven't exactly had the full experience. most of this was based on misleading information from their emails and my expectation that was simply not met, rather than there being any serious quality or service issues with the...
Read moreI recently visited Miller & Carter Bristol City on Thursday, 1st August, and unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. Just a few days prior, I had lunch at Miller & Carter in Manchester, where I thoroughly enjoyed the weekday lunch menu available before 5 pm. The food was exceptional, and the waitress who served us in Manchester provided outstanding service, which encouraged me to visit the Bristol branch to enjoy the same lunch menu.
Before making my reservation, I checked the Miller & Carter website to confirm that the lunch menu was still available and, finding it listed, I booked a table for our visit. However, upon arrival at the Bristol City restaurant, we were greeted by a young man who appeared to be the manager. His attitude was incredibly unpleasant and unwelcoming.
When I mentioned that we wanted to order from the fixed-price lunch menu of 2 or 3 courses, he abruptly informed us that the menu was not available. I explained that I had seen it advertised on the website, to which he curtly replied that the menu had been changed, and then inconsistently stated that it was available only after 5 pm. Pointing to the sign at the entrance displaying the same menu and conditions I had seen online and in Manchester, he reluctantly agreed to serve us the lunch menu. However, his attitude remained dismissive and discourteous throughout our interaction.
Despite eventually getting the lunch menu, the poor service we received overshadowed the entire dining experience, leaving us feeling unwelcome and disappointed. Based on this visit, I am hesitant to return to the Bristol branch, which starkly contrasts with the delightful experience I had at the...
