We arrived at Sandwi for a spontaneous visit as we discovered we would be two hours earlier than expected for our train to London and figured it would be better for us to fill ourselves up before getting the train out.
I looked at the menu and it was very enticing with plenty to choose from. I opted for an avocado on toast which is a sourdough sandwich made from crushed avacados, olive oil, and sea salt with chilli flakes and tomatoes I asked for a fried egg on top of this.
My partner got the bacon and cheese toastie and i appreciated it when we asked for it to be cooked well it was noted and delivered.
I also ordered a smoothie called The Ultimate which is both dairy-free and vegan. It contained bananas, kiwi, dates, granola and almond milk. I had to wait a while for this to come and had to prompt a member of staff for where it was as we already finished eating and i was still waiting on the smoothie.
I liked this combination and it balances out well with the sweetness of the bananas and almonds contrasting the flavour of the dates and granola. My only observation is the supplied straw was too thin to allow the banana and some of the ingredients through. I ended up having to take the lid off to be able to consume my drink.
There is free wifi here that meets my needs but i do wish there were more power outlets especially since it's right next to a train station so being able to charge our devices would be a good plus. The prices were okay but a little on the steep end such as one single fried egg costing £1.50 and while it was tasty, i don't think it should have been that high a price.
Im give this place 4 out of five stars, we would visit again but hopefully, they make improvements over time to adapt to the...
Read moreI've been here a dozen times, for both sit-in and takeaway food and drink, and still can't make up my mind on whether it's actually worthwhile. The pros: good range of vegetarian/vegan/meat-eater options, very nice full English breakfasts, calm ambience (a nice respite before the chaos of Temple Meads), good drinks selection (including alcohol with breakfast). The cons: the staff are clearly overworked and can be really short with you (have heard waitresses being told off in the back by the manager(?) which is probably why everyone seems generally miserable), most menu items (especially the takeaway sandwiches/boxes at the counter and the toasties) are super overpriced for what you get, the sourdough bread is rock solid, coffee is mediocre. Overall, I would say it's a decent place to grab some food quickly before your train, but if you've got a bit more time, you'd definitely get a better experience and value for money in Hart's Bakery round the corner or the many other cafes on the other side of...
Read moreLooks great but wow was it unfriendly!
Asked a wandering team member politely if I could sit anywhere and she looked at me like I'd asked a stupid question. When i went up to order, The person taking orders barely even looked at me, when I asked for GF bread she just blankly turned her face away from me and asked another angry looking team member "we have gluten freebread?" (States clearly on the menu they do)
She barely even acknowledged as she turned around, anything else... money. No eye contact, no welcome, no thank you, no your food will be right out...nothing. They charged me an extra £1 for gf bread (almost £7 for avocado on toast) and then when it came it was as lacking as the service. If there was even half an avocado shared between the 2 slices I'd be surprised, they covered up the lack of main ingredient with massive slices of underripe tomato and some peashoots. If I'd not been in a rush I'd have complained, but I'm not convinced they'd have listened anyway tbh
Would NOT...
