To say I'm disappointed with Spicer & Cole would be a huge understatement!
The cafe is just 2 minutes from my door and I was excited to check it out-knowing that if it was good I'd be there all the time. The decor inside looks lovely and it has a cool, funky vibe inside. Really clean and comfortable and lots of space.
Sadly both the food and the service have been terrible on multiple occasions.
I've been to the cafe a few times, (ordering different things each time I went) as wanted to give the place a chance, but every time left feeling unwelcome and, quite frankly, ripped off!
A few of the staff have been quite unfriendly. They don't say please or thank you.... they don't smile when you order, and don't say hello when you enter. They seem like they'd rather do anything but serve you. They're always chatting to each other and seem distracted, even when there are 3 or four of them and the cafe is not very busy.
I ordered simple poached eggs on toast a few weeks back but I couldn't eat them as there was some king of pesto/basil oil all over the plate and the toast was swimming in butter too, meaning the presiding flavour was tasteless oil. It could possibly have been police oil and if so it's not the best and I could have taken a paddle in mine. (AVOID IF YOU DON'T WANT A CORONARY!) I was in a rush and didn't want to make a fuss, so said nothing.
Today I ordered the sweet potato, chorizo and egg dish, which I was really looking forward to. (I've had it before in a different Spicer & Cole and it was delicious!) When I cut into my poached eggs they were "snotty" and not cooked properly at all. I asked the waitress if they could have a look and she agreed with me that the eggs were completely raw inside.
I apologised for the inconvenience but explained I couldn't eat the eggs. (I really didn't want salmonella food poising!) At which point a gentleman server came over and told me there were 7 other orders in front of mine so I'd have to wait for these orders to go through to get a replacement breakfast, so it might take a while.
My boyfriend politely asked if they could do my dish before the other 7 orders that were waiting as we'd ordered first, and he'd already started eating his food.
Having originally agreed that the dish wasn't right and saying sorry, the waiter then back-tracked and told me there was nothing wrong with my eggs! (That's just the way they serve them there he says!) I told him they were runny and showed him again on the back of my knife and he continued to tell me my eggs were fine and that I was incorrect. (Excuse me, but I'm a grown up and I think I know if my egg is cooked or not!)
Basically folks, if you want to pay £10 or more for greasy dishes, uncooked eggs, bad service, and the server calling you "love" when alerted to a problem then go here!
There are so many lovely coffee shops and restaurants close by, both brand names and small independents, why go somewhere where the food is sub-par, unhealthy, you might get food poisoning and the waiter is...
Read moreDisappointing, got there at 3-25 and closes at 4pm, staff said if we drank or ate in we’d have to have pause cups and plates! Which we did but everybody else there had regular cups n saucers.so it’s not like the dishwasher was turned off for the day, why do Places do this? Tbe drinks were to the brim and I’d say downsized too in this transfer to paper. Our cake was put in a paper box along with the surly attitude when we dared to ask some polite questions about this service Avoid

Read moreDelicious granola! , the menu on this listing here is not the menu on the day for breakfast which was disappointing. Also the menu in the cafe most stuff wasn’t available - apparently because it was Friday.
After an hour of being in there with our dog, we were asked to leave, apparently no dogs allowed. Despite the person behind the counter seeing and smiling at our dog on arrival.
There was no information on the website about dogs and no signs saying no dogs. It would be helpful to clearly state your dog policy both on the cafe door and on your website so when people are looking for options they can make the right choice . Clear is kind.
Also the website is not disabled accessible as the font of the lettering is not contrasting enough to the background.
I hope you are able to take the feedback in the spirit it is intended, so that you can help meet expectations and build a thriving business. Wishing you...
