We went to The Crafty Egg on their first ever Sun morn brunch 🍳 and they were really busy! As you would expect on the first weekend, they were having a few teething problems. The coffee wait was 20 mins so either they didn’t have enough baristas or machines, who knows? Staff were also just getting used to the iPad ordering system. That said, the atmosphere was so positive and buzzing we didn’t really notice and the staff were honest and open and lovely about the issues (telling people as they came in the door) and the food was genuinely INCREDIBLE. My avocado / poached egg combo was insanely good… hands down best breakfast I’ve ever had in Fishponds. Coffee was also perfect when it arrived. 10 year old really rated the banana smoothie (when I ate her chia seeds off the top 🤣) and she was excited to see pancakes on the menu. There were loads of topping choices - she went for Nutella- but she felt they were too thick and cakey for her liking. If you have two small kids, order one portion of pancakes - plenty to share. (I’m not sure they have a specific kids menu at the moment but I have heard they are working on it) Overall such a great addition to Fishponds, we are excited to go back! This deserves a 5 star for the quality of service so early on and frankly just amazing food and flavours. I’m making an allowance for opening week glitches, which I am sure will be ironed out soon. The food speaks for itself.

Very nice brunch. Tasty food. Kimchi mushrooms were a hit. I'm amazed at how long people are willing to stand in line to get service for this however. Is it worth the wait ? Probs yes. Worth 1 hour wait? No One loo for this small, popular and nice venue, while serving potent coffee, one toilet is a crime. People eating along a bench meer inches from a person pooping. I suppose if you waited 1 hour you aren't concerned with the situation, but I felt a bit gross when I emerged after destroying that toilet. The glances from the bench eaters was enough to make me want hold my head in either shame or hold it up in triumph. Lest to say it's nice but you may come out with conflicting opinions as I just did. Happy queuing.

Firstly, look how stunning my food was!!! And it tasted great too! I went here for brunch and ordered the potato hash with smoked salmon (you can also get it with chorizo or halloumi, tempting options) as well as a lavendar latte (which has no coffee in it, but is very tasty warm frothy milk). It isn't your cheapest brunch but it's well worth it for the quality and portion sizes. My friend ordered a veggie crafty which was a brilliantly hearty plate of food. I will definitely come here again because there was a lot of interesting options on the menu I'd like to try, for example the Afghan baked eggs (pittas, mint and spices 👀). Overall a lovely experience!

Coffee #1 still has the best coffee.

I was excited by the promise that they had lots of plants with many for sale, unfortunately there aren't that many (with the promise of more coming) and none are for sale yet. The plants that are there are fairly basic (but mature) houseplants (dracaena, cheese plant, jade plant type of stuff)

Coffee was not great; cold (ish) and watery with a single size available, cappuccino served in a small mug (half the size I'd like) and a similar/higher price than the average in fishponds.

Service was okay as we were asked what we wanted by three different people, some people near us did have their order forgotten. The manager did sit next to me which made me very uncomfortable but the people I was with told me I was being a big baby so :/ meh. I'd like some resemblance of a uniform (arm band, apron, hat, whatever) The fact we were served 3 times did aid recognition of staff tho.

Music was way too loud; kinda bad Sonos speakers in a large area, so have to be (loud) to fill the room, also not exactly easy listening (chill hip hop kinda stuff)

The fit and finish was not up to scratch, there is still a big damp patch from the last place so I assume the roof has yet to be fixed (avoid if raining) and walls simply had plasterboard fixed to them with no finishing around the joints.

I cannot comment on the food

TLDR Would not recommend. Looking forward to FED.

EDIT/response: I aimed to be helpful, I mentioned the coffee was cold (I assume you can infer what to do in the future to fix this).

The speakers were low quality so you have to play the music at high volume (investing in higher quality speakers would help this). And most places play easy listening as it is less likely to be noticed/ disliked, I'm open to other music, I even like a few easy life songs (what I think was mostly playing) but it's not easy listening.

It was difficult to tell who was staff and who wasn't (I even made a suggestion in the review)

I shouldn't even need to be helpful, that's not what reviews are for, I provided customers with my experience so they can make an informed decision. I'm not writing a business manifesto.

I understand opening a business is difficult but this isn't your first store (same goes for FED) so you knew about all of these issues or would at least have some support. If these issues need time then open later, you were already 1-2 days later than advertised. I can't wait a month before leaving a review as I probably won't be returning. All of the things I said were true and fair(imo), I'm sorry that hearing...

After an unfortunate start to our evening at a nearby bar, my friends and I stumbled upon The Crafty Egg in Bristol. The difference in atmosphere and service was like night and day, and I feel compelled to share our delightful experience.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and an inviting atmosphere that immediately made us feel welcomed. The staff at The Crafty Egg were not only courteous but went above and beyond to ensure we felt comfortable and valued. It was a breath of fresh air, especially considering the unpleasant experience we had just prior.

The service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. Our server had an infectious enthusiasm and a genuine kindness that added a special touch to our visit. It's worth noting that, as a diverse group, we were treated with utmost respect and inclusivity here, which spoke volumes about the establishment's commitment to welcoming all patrons.

The drinks we ordered were served quickly and were just what we needed to lift our spirits. The ambiance of The Crafty Egg was cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some quality time with friends.

It's not just the food and drinks that will bring us back to The Crafty Egg, but the sense of community and the positive vibes that the staff and the environment provided. It was a clear reminder that great service and a friendly atmosphere can turn an entire evening around.

I highly recommend The Crafty Egg to anyone looking for a friendly neighborhood spot with staff who truly care about your experience. It's a place we'll certainly return to with eagerness and recommend to others...

I wasn't going to write a public review here as I thought I'd be respectful and instead message them privately, but they chose to reply to my email using ChatGPT. I thoroughly checked and verified this, and then messaged them about it, and they admitted to it. Clearly they didn't care enough about my visit to reply personally. They blamed its use on grammar and spelling, (which I struggle with too) however, when reversing the prompt to ChatGPT the reply was almost word for word identical, showing it was used for more than just a spell and grammar check.

Anyway in a nutshell, we came here to celebrate a special occasion. The food took over an hour to come out, by which point it was cold, the staff were uninterested and unapologetic, but agreed to reheat it which then took an additional 20 mins. It was missing things listed on the menu, and the weirdest thing about the experience was we were prompted with a up-front service charge...which I felt was quite odd considering at that point we hadn’t really received any service. I understand how important these service charges are in hospitality, and I don’t begrudge paying them if I feel like I’ve received good service during my visit, but this was a very awkward and odd exchange.

A real shame as we had ate at the Gloucester Road site earlier in the month and had a great experience, which was why I messaged them first before running to google, but their lack of interest to make it right has made me think twice...
