Frequented this pub for many years when Amanda & Charles (the previous owners), were at the helm. The Landsdown was a great local pub with a reputation for good food, friendly and cordial chat, hence the number of great google reviews. Since new ownership we have visited about 8-10 times and frankly it is a bit hit and miss. What has made me right this review is the last two visits, the business has changed tack believing that it is a restaurant, as opposed to a pub but without a restaurant food offering. Operating with more staff than customers and yet still unable to acknowledge guests as they arrive. They merely stand at the bar waiting for the drinks as its table service only. Which is fine as a concept as the Albion operate this model and do it extremely well. Sunday last arrived and with 7 staff at the bar took 5 mins for anyone to approach their "wait to be seated" sign at the bar. Staff come across as very junior verging on rude and in need of some experience to lead them. If your looking for a quality local pub serving great food in Clifton village my advice would be to detour from the Landsdown and make your way to the Albion, where you'll be guaranteed a warm welcome with excellent and service to boot without the illusions of grandeur, one more thing the place could do with a clean as now it looks unloved and certainly not cared about. This business has a reputation based on its previous owners abs there is only so long you can...
Read moreI'll start by saying that this used to be most favourite roast in Bristol and my 'go to' when my mum or friends were visiting. We went today after reserving a table 2 months in advance to find they gave us the tiniest table imaginable right by the busy bar with people barging past. These tables should be reserved for walk ins. We asked to move and they did thankfully. We then ordered 2 lamb and 2 beefs. A few minutes later they came back to say they only had one lamb. Accepted this...they then came back to say they had no lamb left. At 2pm on a Sunday!!! What?! We had no choice but to accept this and waited for our mains. They arrived with the tiniest portion of cauliflower cheese (additional cost) some awful roast potatoes which were barely roasted and some bland vegetables. We were sat in the The courtyard and the weather was great but they had every heater on, making it unbearably hot. I asked to turn our ones off as we were sweating but they said they couldn't as they were attached to the lights! What kind of shambles is this pub now?!? With so many amazing roasts going on in Bristol right now for a reasonable price ( Bank Tavern and Green Man are my faves) please don't waste your time or money eating here anymore. The mighty Lansdown roast is over...
Read moreMy roast was awful - the portion was tiny. I had one potato on my plate, expressed my dissatisfaction to the server and she said no there’s one underneath and everyone gets 3, which was a tiny slither totalling of 1 whole roast potato. Just as well because the potato was boiled and I did not eat it. They had clearly ran out of food which is why it took so long and boiled potatoes quickly. We all had one tiny pig in blanket, even though the menu said blankets. They forgot our yorkshires so had to wait for those. If something on the menu is running low, please tell us so we can change our order and not be upset with the reduced portion - especially for £16.50!
Not only this, we were pretty cold in the garden wearing our coats, because all 6 heaters in the garden were broken? Hmm Also, they had no lighting in the marquee past 4 so we were eating in the darkness.
The toilet was out of action because it was blocked so we had to go next door to use their facilities. Not their fault, these things are unavoidable sometimes.
The male server we had at the end was pleasant and apologetic for the darkness and hoped we would return again. We will maybe return for sports and beers, but not the...
