Went as a family of 5 last night to Osteria 2 Adults and 3 young children, arrived slightly early but this was no issue they had sorted us a table so we could put our pram next to us which was appreciated. The owner was very welcoming and the two young servers were really pleasant to speak to. The restaurant is quite intense with it being so small which at first wasn't a problem but as the food came became quite uncomfortable. The menu is very limited and was hard to decide what to choose for our 2 boys (6&2) we asked if a dish was similar to a bolognese which we got a reply of "please don't call it a bolognese" we all ordered the same thing 2 adult portions and one child that we split which was advised off the owner himself to do, we also ordered 3 portions of bruschetta (favourite of mine) 1 cheese, 1 garlic mushrooms 1 normal tomato. This is where unfortunately things went downhill, the food came and you could tell straight away the quality wasn't great the bread was stale and had been over toasted (burned) on one side the garlic mushrooms were luke warm and had very little flavour of garlic. The owner makes his presence known he hangs about to see what you think which makes it very awkward when its not very good. Unfortunately the pasta came and again you could tell the quality and cost of ingredients would of been very little the sauce was tasteless and the pasta and meat were not what I would expect. we do eat and make a lot of italian pastas so maybe we are just picky but I struggled to finish it. Again the owner was very intense wanting to know what we thought which made for a very uncomfortable time. When he eventually left i asked the very polite servers if we could get the bill and take off and said that I didn't think the food was of a very good standard but didn't want to make it awkward for them we paid and left. I think £18 for the pasta we had was extremely steep. Thanks to the severs who we had a good crack with and made it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreArguably one of the worst dining experiences Iāve had in a long time. After being greeted by a relatively empty restaurant with at least a few spare tables, we were begrudgingly showed upstairs. After poring over the unusually limited menu (four pasta options, an extensive bruschetta collection, and three specials), we decided to have two āspecialsā. Perhaps the definition of special is lost on this establishment given the nature of what we received. The āraguā was littered with enough peppercorns to season a small wedding and the meat was very overcooked to the point of having an earthy consistency. The pistachio āpestoā was simply a handful of chopped up pistachio with some glamour herbs thrown in for a faux refined look. What added insult to injury was the tidal pool of oil and grease that gave the lower portion of the dish a nice shimmery finish - it was verging on inedible. We donāt normally complain about the food we eat unless it was exceptional circumstances, in this instance exceptional was a gleaming understatement. After we expressed our concerns with the quality of the food, we were met with the comment āwell I donāt work in the kitchen so I donāt careā. We were quite stunned at such a fanfare of unprofessionalism and were quick to leave the restaurant. The rude server was kind enough to offer us a generous five pounds off and showed no remorse in the delivery of one of the worst dining experiences since the red wedding. Skip...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePlace is small, even with an upstairs. Recommend booking first if want to eat here. Popped in & greeted warmly by waiter, who began reciting to myself everything vegan/vegetarian, even while he seated us & gave us menus. Thankfully he stopped when I interrupted and told him I wasn't vegetarian. Maybe because I was a woman or coloured or I was wearing a dress or I smiled??!!!! Not enough staff, so waiter was profusely apologetic, but we did get served/drinks. Starter of shared platter was delicious, though in Italy it's usual to have some plain (assorted) bread to eat the salami/cheese etc with. The main of pasta was nice - we ate as much as we could (even a small bowl was a lot). It was v.pricey given the pasta probably wasn't fresh, the peas were dull looking rather than green and the sausage was in tiny pieces - I make better pasta at home. We didn't get dessert, but a table nearby did get pannacotta - 2 small portions that looked beautiful, probably tasty, but again v.expensive for what it is. If you don't want chips then this is a good enough, expensive place to eat...
