✓ Vegan and Vegetarian Options WHAT I HAD: Tofu Steak Donburi [£8.50], 5 pieces Vegetable Gyoza [£4.70], Nasu Dengkaku [£5.70] – Grilled aubergine in sweetened miso sauce, Vegetable Yaki Soba Stir Fry [£7.60] I’ve never dined in Japas Sushi, but have gotten takeaway several times. The food isn’t something to shout about, but it is decent and probably an slightly better than the usual Asian (Chinese/Japanese) takeaway fare. As I live nearby, I do get takeaway occasionally when I’m not cooking and in the mood for some Japanese food. I like the variety they offer – aside from the many types of sushi, they have a lot of hot food options! From hot appetisers to noodles and rice. Bonus points for offering several dessert options (that is not just ice cream) as well! The quality isn’t the most consistent (a bit salty at times) but it has never massively disappointed me. Could be more generous with the toppings for certain meals (i.e. Tofu Steak Donburi). Still, price point is overall acceptable. The staff has always been detailed and never gotten my orders (especially with my special requests) wrong. Service is fast as well. Overall, it might not serve authentic Japanese food, but it still a good place to get a quick bite or takeaway to satisfy some Asian/Japanese food cravings and satisfying hot meal.

Japas Japanese. A cheeky lunch session. Quiet unassuming frontage on Brookside near Lensfield road. Interior is not unlike any unassuming quiet calm Japanese artisan place in Osaka or Tokyo etc. Extensive menu. I could be eating here weekly for a year and still not covered all of its dishes, especially the sushi and sashimi section. Chinese influence on some Menu items. For lunch we had soft shell crabs, the sushi & sashimi bento box, and pork belly ramen in miso stock. None disappointed. Soft shell crab was lovely tempura fried. Not greasy. Tasty on a bed of salad. Bento box was super generous. Rice on the sushi was just right in texture and temperature. Ramen with pork belly… delightful. This explains why during my time there, the Deliveroo and adjust Eat orders were coming thick and fast! Sorry about the photos. I couldn’t wait to tuck in before taking them!

Me and my partner have wanted to visit Japan for years and finding somewhere like Japas in Cambridge is a great surprise! We went for a celebration dinner and such an authentic cosy restaurant made me really happy. The mains were priced at around only £10 each (!!!) and presented generously and beautifully, staff were so friendly and constantly coming to interact and chat with customers. My partner won't eat seafood but loved the sirloin yaki udon and range of meat options. I was pleased to see takoyaki on the menu- we also had a light sake (so much variety!), mochi to finish and took away futomaki rolls which they were very kind to bag for me. VERY glad we chose Japas over a place like Wagamama. I left a thank you note for such a wonderful experience, not often you can have a genuinely lovely time in the city. Would give 6 stars if I could- arigatou gozaimashita!

I have been to the Japas restaurant several times. I was pleased with the food all the times I have been there, but the service from one of the female waitresses was never good. This last time it was just appaling. As we were placing our order it seemed that she was just about to be sick over us. Not that she was feeling sick, she just seemed annoyed that she had to be serving us. When she left our table, we started discussing if we should pay service charge, considering the service being so bad. She seemed to have overheard us, as she changed slightly her behaviour. Before we left the restaurant at the end of our meal, I spoke to the manager, at the front counter and he appologised profusely and said that he acctually knew that she is quite rude, to what I understood other customers had complained. He also told me he had brought this to the attention of the manager/owner, but that nothing much came out of it. He assured us that next time we would go there he would make sure that someone else would waiter our table, but to be honest, I don't think I...
