don’t get me wrong, the cake and cafe itself is amazing! i just have high expectations about cakes collection/delivery services, so i think necessary improvements should be made.
i ordered a 9-inch cake, delivery is not available (because the cake is not on the deliveroo menu), so i cycle to collect which i guess is the case for most people in cambridge.
i brought a large plastic bag, but it didn’t fit at all. neither the cafe offers a proper bag. considering the square shape of the box, it was too big to fit in the normal size bike basket, which made things worse is the material of the cake package itself that is too soft to support the whole cake. if the cake is put in a tight bag, the cake box will be crashed. so don’t mention to use ropes to tie the cake at the back of your bike. forget about it.
so guess what i did? i held the cake with one arm while pushing the bike. i also asked nearby grocery shops if they have big bags no success. In the end, i went into a tradesman shop expecting some hardcore big industry grade bags. well in the end, i did use a big bin bag to perfectly fit the cake.
there of course some costs will be involved but i mean if i think those are the basic considerations if it’s a collection servus, at least 1) use some harder paper material with better support for the cake box 2) offer bags 3) offer deliver service or add item to deliveroo or other platforms.
imagine you are really happy about the cake itself but can’t be bothered to order again just because of all the hassle and headaches experienced.
** based on owners reply, if you don’t have other means of transport than bike, if you don’t live nearby to walk short distances while holding cake, if you need to use hands for other purposes than transporting the cake, don’t bother.
and sorry the package is not even strong enough to hold in hands.
making delicate cake doesn’t justify the poor package and the suggestions not to use...
Read moreAs someone who used to work in a café in a mediterrenean country, one thing I longed for which is rather rare outisde of London, is a café which has the mediterrenean hospitality, excellent coffee and excellent homemade pastries. Where to begin with this café? Firstly the coffee is some of the better you get in Cambridge, the espresso is excellent and the milk-based coffees are equally as beautiful. A true appreciation is felt when you drink their coffees as a former Barista myself. The tirimasu is better than my friend’s grandma’s and is the tastiest I have tried outside of Italy. If you are going to take anything away from this review, try the tirimasu, the classic and even the other flavors which I initially hesitated to try are excellent, I have tried the pistachio and strawberry tirimasus and both are gorgeous. The menu changes every day, so it is refreshing and I’ve never had a single item which I thought wasn’t of the best quality, and reminds me even more of our café culture. The owners of the café are extremely warm, and friendly sometimes I feel like I am talking to an old friend anytime I visit! If there is anything you should take away from this review, please make sure to try the tirimasu, literally the best you will get outside of Italy. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients used! A must try for those who are homesick, and a must try for those who wish to experience Italian//Mediterenean...
Read moreOne of my favorite cafés in Cambridge, not just for its cozy atmosphere and music, but especially for the exceptional quality of its pastries and coffee. I usually order the bombolone alla crema di pistachio, and as an Italian, I can confidently say it's the best pistachio cream I've ever tasted in my entire life—delicate, soft, fluffy, and simply heavenly.
I love sitting by the window, watching people cycling along Mill Road, while catching up with a friend. The menu is minimal yet delightful, featuring homemade pizza bread and saltimbocca for savory options, alongside pastries like filled cornetto and bombolone. Their daily patisserie selection is phenomenal, worthy of a pâtissier like Cédric Grolet. Just check out their Instagram account for a glimpse!
It's perfect for takeaways or ordering from home via Deliveroo. The place is tiny, with only three small tables inside, two seats by the window, and a small table outside. Please don’t come here—I'd like to keep this gem all to myself!
The café is run by two brothers, who split their roles between head chef, pastry creation, and front-of-house. Their hard work, dedication, and passion deserve recognition and support. Small businesses like this truly deserve to be celebrated and...
