Burgate Coffee House — Restaurant in Canterbury

Sat in a for a late lunch, ordered a gluten free pesto chicken sandwich and an iced oat chai latte. My friend got the grilled cheese with a flat white. Felt as though 15 quid was a bit expensive for my order - until the food was served! The sandwiches are massive and both my friend and I kept half for dinner. We both really enjoyed our meals! The staff were warm and welcoming, the cafe was relatively quiet for a Saturday at 12:45pm. There were a variety of cakes available as well, with a fair amount of gluten free and vegan options available. Food was lovely and has a lovely homly atmosphere. However the prices are ridiculous. 8.95 for a BLT sandwhich the same size of a supermarket sandwhich. 4 pound for a slice of cake!

If we had know portions before ordering we would have gone elsewhere. Something they need to consider as the food is nice and the services feels very intimate and personal but I just can't justify those prices. Needs a side salad or some crisps or something like that with the sandwhich and even then 8.95 would be on the steep side of things really.

Independent and therefore more worthwhile than any chain in town. Old building and cosy spaces with different feels, as well as an Al fresco outside-front. Lovely staff that are always engaging, kind and competent. The coffee itself is also very nice, and the loyalty card makes a sweet difference every so often. A great place to support when visiting the Cathedral. They also do some events, so keep an eye out for posters and flyers, as many of them are worthwhile.
