Hidden in plain site but on Tindal Street where you wouldn’t really walk down unless you’re on a bus next to the back of the music shop is @stewartstearoom A beautiful quaint little deli and tearoom serving up afternoon tea, fresh jackets and sandwiches and a cracking pot of a English Breakfast Tea!
The tearoom had a real family feel to it and an excellent selection of cakes.
We both had a ploughman’s with cheese and ham, our minds were blown. Literally one of the best ploughman’s we’ve had for a long time. The tastiest mature cheddar, the thick cuts of fresh ham. Oh and the bread, the bread is insanely fresh and warm… the kind of freshness that you don’t want to even put toppings on, just a little bit of butter.

   Read moreHave used this establishment for many years on our occasional visits to Chelmsford but since it has changed hands things have gone downhill, £8 for a bacon sandwich is pricey by any stretch of the imagination described as a 'breakfast sandwich' I thought there might have been a little garnish but no very basic, my wife had scrambled eggs on toast which was ok actually at £7, we ordered 2 one shot lattes and the coffees came up warm at best and not hot and at £3.75 is on the steep side of pricing. I don't like giving bad reviews especially to places we used to frequent and like but I'm afraid we won't be visiting...
   Read moreI would like to give 5 stars as the food is delicious but unfortunately the cafe it’s self is pretty grim. The whole place is badly in need of some tlc. The carpets are filthy...flaking paint on walls above stair well and loft hatch left open. Thank god it’s wasn’t a winding day...you may had ending up with more garnishes on your food than you would have liked. And let’s not forgot the untold cobwebs (2 of which were pulled down by a member of staff collecting plates). I’ll give them benefit of doubt there, a bit early, but maybe they we’re preparing for...
