Change of management? There's a reason why it's empty now. Entirely different pub. What a shame. I feel embarrassed to have recommended this recently.
EDIT: Response to Bottle of Sauce as they requested more information on what's changed pre to post COVID: Pre-cooked pizza bases and general significant drop in quality A bit of charcoal makes a good pizza, but that oven must've not been cleaned for a long time, it was absurd, my finger tips and tongue were dyed and I had to brush off the pizza. Gristle in burger, hadn't experienced this before, so perhaps it's as a result of the delivery focus No Oxford Sauce anymore. Chilli oil has changed? It tasted like peanut oil but staff didn't give an allergy notice. That could kill someone Focus on takeaway and delivery even when you reopened as a pub has caused falling standards and long food waiting times Old beer/dirty pipes/poor QC. - Friend and I came in for dinner and a pint, only had about 3 quarters of a house IPA, since it tasted a bit off, we both went home and vomited within hours. Music playlist was entirely different from the pre-covid usual in a bad way. It ruins the vibe. Confusing COVID protocol signs, staff missing where they were meant to be present. Clear you didn't have enough staff on shift, they aren't treated well and aren't trained. I would be surprised if you paid a living wage. Try making your staff proud of where they work. Poor online ordering system
I really hope this will be remedied with a pivot back the the experience BoS used to have.
EDIT #2: Before attempting to guilt me as you're a 'small' business (a multi-county chain is small?), it took me a fair bit of time to give the constructive criticism above, which I didn't have to do, purely because I want the issues rectified so BoS can go back to being one of our usual spots. Take it on the chin and fix those issues. Padding your ego with 5 star reviews won't improve your business.
If you feel any of the points above are 'absurd' or 'falsities', then please address these so I can be assured that in the 9 or so months since I wrote this review the problems...
Read moreTerrible management treatment towards customers! On the evening of 13th of September, as some working in the industry might expect to be a rather quiet night, I have been met with the utmost disrespect from shift manager Grace . While using the lavatory, halfway trough my meal, I come back to miss Grace clearing my table. While she was passing trough the doors towards the outdoor/second part of the premises, I barely managed to stop her from taking my half eaten meal away with barley an apology.. As by now I have been put off my dinner, I asked for some takeaway boxes and been met with wait and no recognition to the matter. Once I stated my displease, she rudely kept interrupting me while talking and walked away! Trying to finish my sentence, I followed miss Grace and kept talking, moment when she turns around in an incredibly irate state and she aggressively and wrongly accuses me of shouting. I further state my wish of making a formal complaint, followed by threat of being thrown out of the premises and told I can only make a complaint when her General manager is there.. Wish I could've kept this shorter, but considering I'm a regular customer and miss Grace has shown inappropriate behavior in the past, I do not know how to make my voice heard.. Shame that hospitality has such a downfall and this pub in particular has gone trough so many employees in this past year.. Food is always great, service keeps getting worse (now to...
Read moreReally bad showing- waited for 20 mins to be seated which was ubderstandable given current circumstances. What was not understandable was to ask the bar tender for a drinks menu only to be flat out told "No." ... not no, we havent got one available, not no- we dont but can I suggest this etc.. just flat out no.. my wife and I were quite taken aback. Only one type of cider available. That wasn't any good. Getting info on what there was to drink was like getting blood from a stone. The bar tended was an older ginger fellow, avoid if you can. We ask what white wines we had and he curtly lists 3.. house, pinot grigio and something else. We went for 2 glasses of the house wine feeling that any good gastropub should be proud and stand behind the house wine... it tasted vile. I couldnt finish mine and at £5 (?!) Per glass... you expect a lot more.
Finally to have one of those glasses to come covered in someone elses lipstick in the age of Covid... blows my...
