Update 27/09/2025:- We heard Bombay & Co had returned to its original premises in the old High Street so thought we'd give it a whirl after being at the theatre. Thank goodness we booked as it was packed out! Although of course it was a Saturday evening. After my episode with the mutton bone 9 months ago (see below 🤨) we stuck with mainly veggie dishes except for chicken lollipops. All was delicious. Only criticism is the loo. Why is it that so many Asian eateries don't keep their toilets spic and span? Beats me 🤷🏼♀️ However, because of the food and service I've reinstated a 🌟 !
Update 11/01/2025:- Oh dear! I've had to knock 2 stars off my general rating of one of my favourite restaurants. With other dishes, my husband and I ordered a mutton curry. Usually lovely but a piece of meat I ate had a splinter of bone inside which stuck in my gullet. The meat was cut up using a bandsaw and probably not washed properly. I tried to regurgitate it in the ladies loo without success. Some of the staff were very concerned and tried to help including the owner/manager who advised to eat unchewed cooked rice but not once did he apologise. Today 12 Jan was spent mainly in A&E - camera down my throat, X-ray etc. Bone's gone thru' my system but has torn my esophagus. Scary!
Update 20/04/2024:- Went last night with friends and the place was buzzing! Service was very good and our orders were filled in good time. We asked for a medley of starters and the kitchen's choices were all great. Apart from a mains order of lamb cutlets that were alittle tough, all our food was cooked well in fact and presented nicely. There was a birthday celebration upstairs on the balcony which added to the busy Mumbai ambience! Can't wait to return 🙂 New photos added!
Update 03/12/2023:- The restaurant's moved and I felt it might have lost some of its previous buzz but put it down to being a late Sunday afternoon and quite empty. Portland St is much nicer tho' than its previous High St location. The new mutton curry is a great addition 😋
Very nice modern take on a trad Indian restaurant which included afew Bombay/Mumbai classics. Welcoming and helpful staff....
Read moreThe worst experience i have ever had, thought the manager of the restaurant had something on us. We went there before the lunch time when there were only 2 tables were occupied, it was raining heavily outside and we walked in. We didn’t book the table because it was Sunday and it was before lunch time. We walked in, about to sit and the guy came and told us we need booking to get the table, he said all the tables were booked when only two of them were occupied. I told him to check the bookings and let us know if we can sit because there were more than 7 tables empty and nobody was arriving at that moment. But he tried giving us excuses like I already checked before you walked in that no tables are available and it’s gonna get full now when he didn’t even know if we had booking or not, as if he had something on us or being a racist. We told him to try looking up again but he clearly denied to let us sit there when we were polite to him. And the google never really said the reservation required until this week after i called back after we left the place. It seems he might have updated it after i said it doesn’t say we require booking, i asked him if we can come down at the lunch time after we left just to cross check and he said yes we can since there’s no rush at this time time and that was after we were sent home, he did mention the dinner time is fully booked. Then I mentioned to him that we just walked in there and you didn’t let us sit when you just telling me right now that you have sittings available. So he started rambling, it was clearly a move of discrimination or racism. You clearly need new staff specially the manager that handles it because it clearly seems he doesn’t like Indians in the restaurant, i dunno what he had on us. But a poor judgment on the customers will definitely let this restaurant down specially because of the manager who handles the bookings there. We didn’t feel welcomed at all, we felt being ambushed. I dunno how you gonna make up for it but i would definitely going to post about this experience in my blogs on my socials. So people should avoid being ambushed by the random people at...
Read moreBeen to this restaurant today and ordered the below: Mango lassi : was really good had to struggle with my little one to get a few sips.🙄 Aam Panna: Was really good and tasted sweet and tangy. Bhel Puri: loved it, had lots of sev and the sauces were blended well. Samosa chat: the samosa was not fresh at all, so this was a flopper. Chole Bhature: the Bhature was sponjy rather than crisp as how the authentic one should taste and the Chile was below average. Paani Puri: the potato mix for the Puri was good but the paani had soda in it and was not sweet and had a bitter taste, I had to use my aam Panna instead of the paani that was served. Roomali roti: was good but expected the roti to be a bit softer. Kadai paneer: tasted good but had a lot of red colour added to it. I actually do not prefer food colours in food and feel that just the Kashmiri red chilli would give it it's desired colour. I eat my food with my fingers rather than the spoon so the colour was still on my fingers even after a wash. Altogether there were good and bad parts to the food and feel a bit more effort on the food side will make this restaurant really a nice place to visit. The ambience and service was really good. They also have a small sweet outlet at the end of the road and I tried a jalebi and some milk cake . I feel Jalebis taste great when fried in ghee and do not like it otherwise if when fried it with other type of oil as it gives out the state of the oil rather than the flavour of jalebi, so jalebi was a "No,no". Milk cake...
