The Montpellier Wine Bar & Cellar Restaurant — Restaurant in Cheltenham

Took my mother for lunch as we fancied sitting outside and enjoying the sun. The building is inviting and well situated for sun and people watching. I particularly enjoy the Tivoli plastic millionaires. Service was very good; the waitresses were very attentive and kind. Very pretty girls who had presumably just completed their A levels and awaiting to go off to university. The menu was not terribly exciting. The food when it arrived was not good. Our starter was ok but the main was quite disapointing, the fish overcooked, and the potatoes undercooked. I felt the attention to detail with regards the food is just not there. The management seems to comprise of interesting characters who wouldn’t look out of place as extras in a gritty gangster film. Characters coming and going giving the appearance the business is a front of some kind. The chap we spoke to seemed unconcerned with regards our disappointment with the meal and offered no compensation. Though he was polite. This wine bar has been a very prestigious place to go on the past but the standard is dropping every time we go. Very disappointed the last two times we have been - March 2016 - Toilets (M/F) are disgraceful, moldy soap dispensers, toilet paper holders lying on the floor with grotty looking paper, bar staff chewing gum, flicking and fiddling with hair all the time. Went here after years, paid for a small glass of wine, the bar staff spilt some on the counter when decanting it from the measure when challenged she just said that’s a small glass!!! Then when talking to a friend stood beside me chatting about how it has changed a member of staff butted in and said ‘ you don’t have to be here ‘ I am aware of this but really no wonder there wasn’t many...
