We’ve visited this place before when it was just around the corner next to the Little London car park, and it was lovely. But unfortunately, this time (Today) was a huge disappointment, and I felt it was important to share my experience, rather than just talk about it.
From working in a Michelin-star environment in London and seeing restaurants and bars closing down left, right, and centre, I’m not someone who likes to damage the reputation of an independent establishment—but this felt necessary.
I paid £15 for two sad-looking poached eggs on toast with no bacon or sides, served on cheap sourdough. The dish was so basic, it felt like it could’ve been from a supermarket rather than a café that charges that much.
Then there was the £10 bacon bun—served on a plain Tesco brioche bun with three slightly overcooked streaks of bacon, and no sauce. Honestly, I’ve had better in London for half the price.
The food wasn’t just overpriced, it was also poor quality. On top of that, the service was disappointing, especially considering the 12.5% service charge added to the bill. My bacon bun was practically slammed down in front of me without a word, and no one bothered to ask if I wanted sauce or anything else.
The Bloody Mary was another letdown—barely any vodka in it, and it was overflowing. When I mentioned it, the bartender casually said, "Sorry, I forgot to put the vodka in," but still charged me full price.
Overall, it was a truly frustrating experience, and sadly, I won’t be returning. I’ve already shared my thoughts with friends and family in Chichester, and I really hope The Barn takes this feedback seriously...
Read moreMy partner and I were searching for a decent breakfast/brunch establishment in Chichester and hoped we had found it in Barn Little. Sadly it wasn’t to be, a combination of dour looking staff, rather uninspiring surroundings (dusty and unclean) and pretty dreadful food, means the search continues.
I had the Kedgeree, which was dry and grainy with a rice which gave the impression of being undercooked. I suspect it was whole grain (not advertised as such), Kedgeree for me is a light fluffy, flaky fish, curry flavoured dish, with hard boiled egg as a garnish…this had none of the characteristics of said dish. (£16 for what was a small plate is hugely steep especially when the quality is poor)
My partner had the smashed avocado on sourdough toast, sadly the bread was stale and too tough for my partner to cut. I was asked to oblige, which made her feel a tad childlike in having someone cut up her food. The staff, whom I felt for did not look happy at their work, enquired as to our opinion of the food.
After appraising them of my disappointment I was advised that they were waiving the service charge. Given our experience I would not have paid it anyway. We left hugely disappointed and vowing never to return, I am very fair minded and rarely write a negative comment unless deserved…sorry Barn Little but you...

Staff were friendly, inviting and not overly rude like the other reviews have left.. I was very surprised to see such comments left on other reviews as everyone seemed lovely. Relaxed atmosphere with a quirky decor, we didn't book but staff were more than happy to find seating for us outside where we'd requested to be ideally.
I was told recently they've updated their menu, everything seems delicious. I picked the Sourdough cheese, leek toastie with chutney on the side and my other half picked the brioche bun with egg and bacon. Really yummy and we'd happily come here again on our next visit to Chichester.
The price is very reasonable and expected for an independent business, I have been to chain cafés with similar prices and less tasty food so absolutely nothing to complain about with the pricing. There was a service charge included in the bill but we were happy to pay this.
Upon paying i mentioned I would leave a review as it means so much to a small businesses, I can't stress how lovely this hidden gem was to find.
A cinnamon bun was also picked up to go upon leaving!
Thank you very much for the...
