I love this place so much I have been visiting since I was 7 years old with my mother and am now 23, and actually just had my 23rd birthday meal on Sunday 29th October 2017. I try to go every Sunday if I am not working. Even when I was working in pub kitchens on Sundays that served roasts I would finish work and then head to chichester for a Nags! Best carvery in West Sussex, possibly the whole of the south. What's even better is that the carvery is served 7 days a week! Most of the time they serve 4 types of meat, usually on offer is Beef, Gammon, Turkey and Pork.(The 4th type sometimes changes with season I think) The carvery meats are ALWAYS cooked to perfection and beautifully moist! I know many people are skeptical about having a carvery as the meat sits under hot lights and on a hotplate, The Nags Head however, gets through the meat at such a rate that it doesn't have time to sit and go dry as it's being cut and served on a very regular basis. They have the biggest and tastiest Yorkies I have EVER had! The Sage & Onion Stuffing is also the best I have ever tasted. All the extras that are on offer are there you to help yourself to, just some off these offered are; Roast-Potateos, Cauliflower Cheese, Carrots, Peas and others that I can't actually remember right now but always can be topped off with their heavenly meat gravy. I always go back up to get more at least once more! I never have anything else other than a carvery but whenever with friends or family who have had other food served from the kitchen it has always been beautifully presented and never any complaints from whoever I am with. All Desserts and ice creams also look amazing and taste even BETTER!! The staff always give me the warmest of welcomes. Steve aka swinny and Davyd always goes the extra mile to make my visit a great one as do ALL the staff. Shane, one of the chefs, is a great guy and always carves me a lovely bit of meat from the carvery. Dave, the owner is also great and a very friendly guy. (He may look a tad scary but he is super friendly!!) Overall this place really is unique in every way and is a real Gem in the heart of chichester. I'm sure I will be going here for many more years to come. P. S. The Nags Head is a very clean pub/restaurant and super hygienic, which is a very important factor for me. It's also a very good pub just to drink at and I've noticed from how full it becomes is that it's a favourite among the sports fans as a place to watch 'The match'. If on the very very HUGE unlikely chance you don't enjoy your visit, don't keep quiet, tell a member of staff as they will without a doubt do something to make up for it and see that you leave happy and more than willing to give it a 2nd chance, which I will say please...
Read moreBooked a table in the restaurant for a Christmas get together with friends. We had a drink in the very nice bar to start. Very easy to set up a tab for our drinks. When ready we were shown to our table by a lovely young attentive waitress (Lucia, hopefully correct spelling). Great menu choice available and absolutely no rush to order. We were fortunate that the carvery was available on a Saturday night. Three meats were available. Beef, Turkey and Gammon. Chef carved very generous portions on all the meats. Every meat was superbly cooked and very tasty and succulent. Huge well cooked Yorkshire puddings were added to the plates. There were a great choice of accompanying vegetables which included, carrots, peas, cabbage, cauliflower (in a great cheese sauce), roast and boiled potatoes along with stuffing. How refreshing to find vegetables that are well cooked and very tasty. There was no sign of over al dente or boiled to death flavourless vegetables. Top all this off with one of the best thick tasty gravy’s you will find and you have a recipe for the best carvery you will find. No need to stack your plates to the brim. Just take what you are comfortable with and if more is required you are free to revisit the carvery. Between us we had a couple of desserts, Bannoffe Pie and the Eton Mess. Once again very well produced tasty food and fair sized portions. We made a point to thank Chef and the staff for an absolutely enjoyable meal. Our food was not the tiny portioned pretentious offering that many establishments offer. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending The Nags Head for a great dining experience. Once again thankyou to...
Read moreSo my colleague and I decided to have our first Sunday roast ever. (3yrs after arriving in the UK 😅) with thr help of google reviews I checked which place had the best Sunday roast and Nags Head popped up. I trust this place, I have drank here and ate dinner here too but nevet tried thrir roast.
So I made a reservation and there we were. We didnt know the dynamics of how this was going to be. We told the lady we wanted to go for the carvery. She told us to grab a plate and head on. There wasnt a long queue since it was about 5 in the afternoon. There were I believe 5 kinds of meat on thr long table, the meat carver was kind enough to tell us what it is and recommended as well what to get. They had the lovely beef, ham, turkey, chicken and lamb (as far as I can recall). I had a slice of beef and a slice of ham. He also offered their massive yorkshire pudding made inhouse! Mr. Carver said everything is made inhouse and they take pride in what they do. We moved on to the sides and there were loads to choose from. I loved the brocolli and cheese 😁 had crispy potatoes too and theyre lovely, and i tried everything else. The staff was busy refilling and refilling. I had some gravy on the side too. You cant miss that as its a must. Sat down and inhaled the food. I thought it was American style where I could go back for another serving. 🤣 no wonder some peoples plates were dripping and looked like a mountain of food. 🤣 Now, I know the strategy. Til next roast Nags ❤️ thank you for a...
