We roamed for a place to eat, and ended up going to the Botanist, asked for a table and were booked in for 20:00 - even though there was availability prior. Being served took a while considering the bar was empty and there was a group making cocktails, nice brunette male with a man bun served us. The drinks were fantastic. Following this, we were showed to our table swiftly. Brought water also. However, had to set table ourself. My starter was the flatbread, which was soft but a bit too flaky/crumbly. My partner had the wings. Our mains arrived and they were fantastic. My partner was happy with his steak and chips. I opted for the pasta. It was lovely but drowned in sauce which made the dish in itself difficult to eat. For dessert I had mint chocolate ice cream which was so icy, it seemed low quality. My partner had the cookie dough and was very happy. Service from the girl with black hair in space buns and face tattoos was lovely - we were tempted to ask for advice on how she kept her tattoos so fresh and vivid. However there was a couple who had a dog with them that occupied the table opposite ours. Said waitress spent excess amounts of time fussing their dog but didn’t wash her hands where it was visible, I didn’t see a faucet nearby though so fair enough if she washed them in kitchen before service. It just seemed unhygienic to the visible eye and some people do get worried about this type of thing due to allergies. Excluding this lady, girl with blue hair seemed remotely snotty. An alternate brunette girl was clearly rushed off her feet running round doing orders and the blue haired girl attempted to palm drinks off on go the brunette, and rolled her eyes when she had to serve said drinks as the brunette woman was occupied. Didn’t appreciate the tone of the staff attitude. It was easy to tell who was passionate about working at such a wonderful place and who wasn’t.

My wife's family are from the area, and we came to visit with the kids. Her cousin decided we should have a pub crawl, and I recon it was a great idea. Stop Number 4. Time to switch to lighter drinks. And I've recently discovered an affinity for gins. My wife's cousin ditched me for a few minutes, and I made friends with the bartender and a local. They mocked my Canadian accent, but it was all very friendly, and we had a great laugh. Tried the Monkey 47 I believe. Meanwhile the lady next to me received her drink, and I caught myself saying in my best Monty Python imitation "I'll have a potted plant with gin on the side". I'd never seen so much greenery come out of a drink. The accents were also a challenge for me with the loud music, etc... and I had never been given the chance to pick my own tonic before. So I'm probably the one who was out of place, but I'll know for next time. Great ambiance, nice professional looking crowd. I imagine this is where white collar workers come to let their hair down on the weekend. Although this was a Tuesday, and the place was packed. They had a moderately mediocre band/cover/karaoke act going on, but they're having fun, we're having fun, we're drinking, they're drinking, everybody's happy! It was a great time. Very happy I snuck in a second drink before leaving. I got in trouble from everyone for tipping. This is possibly the hardest thing for me to deal with, especially 7 drinks into the night, as tipping is standard back home (Canada). Loved the gins, would love to come back and try some more. Pub crawl continues, check out other reviews.

What a disappointing experience. We arrived today at 13:30 but Young female at front of the house left us waiting for 1 hour when she told us it will be 30 min. She welcomed us and asked us if was OK for us to wait 30 min. We told her no problem and she suggested to wait at the bar and have some drinks. We ordered and paid the drinks and waited until 14 :00. We gave another extra 10 min and nothing... she passed us so many times and I told my partner let's wait because she saw us if table was ready she will come and tell us. But then we realised it was more than one hour and saw everyone leaving around us and we were the only ones left. We were sitting at the tables in front of the bar. Because it was already 1hour wait partner went to check with her. She said she thought we left the restaurant. Well I gave my name she should come and make sure the table was ready. I don't understand why she didn't see us there were only 3 groups of people in the bar. She passed us more than one time. Then she took us upstairs and I told her we are ready to order (because while I was waiting I checked the food menu) but she left us waiting for another 10 min upstairs . She could have asked one of her colleagues to come and see us asap but no? She left us waiting another 10 min for someone to come and take the order. So we left the restaurant. I came downstairs and said sorry we are leaving. I am pregnant and not going to wait another hour to be served. I believe the food is delicious but front of the house gave us such a horrible experience. The only good thing was the non alcoholic cocktail. The bar was not busy so I really don't understand why she did not come to look for us. We were not hiding, she could see us from the entrance and she passed by our table so many times.

I came to the restaurant on Sunday and ordered the vegetarian option on the Sunday menu. After eating the majority of the food. I had realised there’s bits of pink in it which I’d complain to the waitress. The manager then came over to explain that a new chef in the kitchen had mixed bacon in with the only vegetarian option on the menu, I have been a vegetarian for almost 10 years, partly due to personal reasons and personal health reasons after this visit I had felt quite poorly and was overall really disappointed as the botanist was one of my favourite restaurants! The management had dealt the situation really well, but I was really disappointed that the head chef had not come out to apologise as it was a really big mistake to make by the time I’d eat ordered and eaten in the dish is was 14:30, assuming multiple vegetarian options had gone out with bacon in it unnoticed. I’m only giving this a one star review as the front of House staff managed the chefs poor mistakes and poor lack of accountability well. This photo was taken prior to me eating the meal and I and it’s gone to notice as it’s not a very lit up restaurant and I didn’t really think to check before eating the only vegetarian option on the menu.

My daughter chose The Botanist Chester for her 18th Birthday lunch with quiet a number of us and it was most definitely the best choice. The whole experience was outstanding before we went, during and after. We used the pre ordering process as we were a large number of people and a number of different restrictions due to allergies, health conditions and preferences and it went seamlessly. I can not recommend the venue enough, the waiting staff were friendly and attentive and were exceptionally busy throughout the time we were there. The food and cocktails were absolutely top quality. Value for money is always a big deal breaker for myself and as this was a special occasion I was prepared to be a little more extravagant but with the food, drinks, atmosphere and quality of service the money paid was more than worth it. Highly highly recommended!!! Thank you to them for making my daughter birthday extra special and fantastic.

Second time visiting - first time was great. The five of us were served by a lovely young woman with glasses whose name I can't remember. Drinks service was prompt (albeit with one cracked glass) but food took around 50 minutes to arrive. Do not be fooled by the fancy veneer and exorbitant prices. Cold chips, burned batter, steak sandwich with minimal steak and an inedible Malaysian curry (looked good but wayyy too spicy, something that doesn't usually bother me). It was a mistake to come here for my post-graduation meal and I won't be returning. Edit: So... I did eventually return. Last Wednesday. Served by three wonderful and attentive waitresses (whose names I wish I remembered. Callie? Georgia? Long dark hair and green eyes?) Cocktails were great, calamari was flavorful, paella was hearty and banana doughnut things were yum. Thanks for the meal, Katie! Appreciate it x
