Came in today to study and sit in the computer section across from the bookcases. Two older women told me and any new comers, that the table we were on would be being used for the book club today which was no problem. Both women seemed lovely, and said this very politely. It was a pleasant interaction. They wanted us to be aware incase we would have to move at 11am when they start. I thought I'd move in a few moments as I was going to leave anyway.
10 minutes later a woman came over and very abruptly and rudely said this table is for the book club, you're going to have to move elsewhere.
I wasn't bothered that she was telling us to move, it was more the attitude and total utter rudeness. The look on her face made me feel like we'd done something wrong by simply using the table prior. Only for the women at the top end telling us, no one would've been aware. No signage. It would've been nice if she'd have said it without the tone and demeanor that she did. Both myself and the two men I was facing looked shocked and they began rushing to move elsewhere. It was awkward.
I like story house but this has put me off. The woman looked genuinley annoyed and I can't understand why, we were at the very end of a 12 seated table. There were 3 people at the opposite side. Imagine if I was infact there for that book club, I would've probably left due to how she approached this. I have infact considered attending some of the groups but I'd be inclined to give them a miss now.
Being friendly and approachable is important for customers, I've only been here a handful of times and I believe first impressions count. Perhaps when seated areas are being used staff should put a reserved sign on the table. Even if they need to mention this, do so in a polite friendly way. Any one of us could've been there for that clubđ¤ˇââď¸
I will come back but I'll likely avoid this particular member of staff. If it's a reoccuring theme I will...

Visited here for the third time yesterday (6/1/23) to watch Corsage and just like previous visits to the storyhouse our experience in regards to staff interactions left us feeling just..sad.
We weren't looking for any help or any specific requirements, we were merely just there to see the film.
We were hoping to grab a bottle of water before entering the cinema and before we could begin to ask for this we were met with "Go over there, we're not open" whilst pointing at the bar (despite having a full display of refreshments on show)not even having the decency to look up from his phone, then we began to approach the theatre and again before we managed to reach the top of the steps we were met with a scowling woman in gray trousers , who bluntly told us without a greeting "If you're watching the film, just go in" as if the idea that she might need to help us actually offended her! we only hesitated for a moment just because we were under the impression that tickets needed to be checked?
When we found our seats they were completely unclean! Milky way stars and milkshake lids as well as large black stains on them? We sat on our coats throughout the whole film and as soon as it approached the end and the credits came on..(footage still rolling for some time) ..the lady that met us at the doors stomped around and stared directly at us ..trying to usher us out before we were ready. I understand that her role was to manage visitors but it was holy unjust to physically stomp around and act is if we were an hindrance to her ..After paying money.
Previous interactions in the past include being ignored by staff leaning on tables for well over 30 minutes after booking a table for a Birthday surprise, paying for tea that came in a chipped and filthy teapot and overly...
Read moreBeautiful New Theatre and Cinema complex. It was some journey travelling from Preston to the beautiful city of Chester, but it was worth it. I am currently severely disabled and it has been difficult for me to walk, so at the time my friend booked me the tickets I was using a wheelchair. Several months on I'm now using crutches. We visited the theatre to see The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain and were suitably impressed with the ambience of the waiting lounge with coffee shop all set within a library. The waiting area had clean and accessible toilets, and the whole waiting area did not seem crowded despite a capacity crowd. On arrival I notified an assistant that my ticket was for wheel chair space, and that now I was sans wheelchair. The assistant informed the Theatre manager who in turn liaised with the Ushers and provided me with an incredibly comfortable chair. With my Dad sat behind me, I began chatting to a lady local to Chester who was so proud of this theatre and its calibre and variety of shows. Rightly so, it is a gorgeous theatre, and it was acoustically magnificent. The manager checked I was comfortable during the interval which was incredible. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and praise to all staff (and the lovely lady from Cardiff) for making this evening one of the most entertaining and accommodating experiences my Father and I have ever had. I heartily recommend the Storyhouse theatre to all. 5 stars...
