This was my second experience of the Slug and Lettuce in Chester. Gave it another go after waiting over an hour for food the first time, which turned up overcooked, but somehow still cold. This time was worse. Granted, the restaurant was busy, but we were shown to a table which had dirty dishes on it and were reassured that they would be taken away immediately. 15 minutes later, the dishes were still in front of us (great hygiene in a covid world!) and nobody had been over to clear them, let alone take a drinks order. I had to call somebody over on their way past us to ask for the table to be cleared, and even then, only half of the dishes went and we were left with the remainder for another 10 minutes (when we decided to leave - they never were cleared!). I asked whether we could give our orders, and was told that we had to do this on the app and that they weren't able to take an order in person. This was very worrying when one of our party has serious dietary requirements. Having tried and failed to log into the WiFi to download the app, we decided to leave. Dirty dishes from the previous occupants were still on the table 25 minutes after our arrival, we had been told we couldn't order in person even though we couldn't download the app and every interaction we had had with staff had felt like we'd stopped a firefighter on their way to an emergency. Avoid this place at all costs! Clearly understaffed, undertrained, unclear on how to provide basic customer service and unable even to take dirty dishes away. To be honest, I truly believe the dishes are probably still sat there now, long after we decided it was best not to be!
We ate at Hickory's in the end, who were fully booked, but squeezed us in regardless and gave us the most wonderful food, drink and customer...
Read moreWe went as a group of 10 pre booked bottomless brunch for a birthday on arrival it was very busy we went to the back of the venue to the desk and we were shown to our seats. It took them a while to place the first drink order (you would think they would of taken it when you sit down) we only had 1 drink in the first 30 minutes as compared to previous visits to slug and lettuce this was very poor. I understand it was very busy but for a bottomless brunch you want your moneys worth. We did get more drinks eventually but we had to ask every time and get up and find someone and it felt like we were a burden to the staff. We even left earlier due to poor service as we were bored of getting up constantly and asking. Maybe it should have been table service only and stop people from walking in to give the staff a break and focus on the tables that were in. We won’t be returning to the venue. Only good thing was the...
Read moreSuch a shame to write this review as we always come here for food/drinks we came Today without a reservation because we had called up before previously to try and book a table, but as we arrived we was not greeted at the door, we had to walk to the bar to get someone’s attention as we did that we was greeted by extremely rude member of staff which we later found was the manger!!! She told us that we’d had to book a table which we had tried to do but no one had answered the phone? Then she told us she could not seat us as we was loud? One of my friends had a disability which affecteds her hearing so as she was speaking her called her loud! Which she also explained that she was deaf in one ear and she was sorry if she was loud at any point and then she told us to leave so we will not be going back to there ever again. They was very unfriendly and...
