Called in for the first time last week after been recommended for some food and a drink with my partner whilst we were away for a few days child free.
It was a really warm Friday and on entry we were told that if we were sitting outside they they were not taking orders for food for maybe 50 minutes due to the kitchen being so busy which is fore enough so we found a table outside where we could sit and then went to the bar for a couple of drinks, When I was at the bar ordering food there were three other people in front also ordering food at the same time as drinks. (Two of which were behind us when we entered the premises).
Anyway when it got to my turn at the bar I thought that I would ask the question again about food as they have just ordered, the Bar Man said that he wasn’t aware of not currently taking food orders as he had not been told, but then I can only presume that it was perhaps the manager said to him yes we have put a hold on food orders for around 50 mins due to the backlog of orders in the kitchen. I said ok no problem we are going to have some drinks anyway and we were not in a rush, But would it be please possible to come and let us know when they are taking food orders again.
I came back to the bar some time afterwards for another drink for us both and again people were ordering food in front of me so I asked the same person the had previously served me are you taking food orders again now? And his response was those people are sitting inside.???
Moving on around a hour had passed and I went in to visit the toilet and on passing the bar once again I asked about food and they said we have opened up the kitchen again now do you can come and order food now.
We placed the food order and it was worth waiting for we really enjoyed it and the atmosphere outside was lovely, the only criticism that I would say is that perhaps the management should look at someway of being able to let the customers know when there are taking food orders again and also in a way so it would be a fair process because I’m sure that some customers would not have been as laid back and as patient and understanding as we were and maybe leave.
We actually spent around £140 with three drinks and...
Read moreAfter staying here 3 times before and always loving it I decided to book again for my 40th birthday. We checked in at 3pm and were told breakfast was served from 7am and asked what time we would like to book in for breakfast, which we said 7am as we had to leave early. The room was fine (apart from flickering lights). We went down for breakfast at 7am to find the doors locked. We stood outside for 20 mins before we spotted the chef who told us the manager had over slept. We were eventually let in out of the cold by the cleaner who took pity on us. He very kindly made us a coffee and tried to cobble together a few bits on the breakfast table but told us he was unable to take our order understandably. Another 10 mins or so and a young staff member arrived. He stood behind the bar for 10 mins before casually strolling over and asking would we be wanting anyhting from the kitchen. He took our orders and then went off to have a sit down, rest his head and play on his phone. The manager finally arrived and didn't bother coming over at all until our breakfast was ready. She brought it over without a word. No apology, nothing. We ate our breakfast and then went to check out. We asked for a refund and was told simply "yes". Didn't question it or ask why we wanted a refund so she clearly knew she'd done wrong. Just pointed the card machine at us for a £24 refund on the breakfast. Just absolutely shockingly bad customer service. The cleaner however deserves a promotion to front of house as he is the only one who possesses any customer...
Read moreI stayed here for 3 nights with my partner for a holiday in and around Chester. First of all, the staff here were very polite when we arrived (early) and sat us down for a drink while we waited for the check in time to arrive. The drinks and food menu looked good although we unfortunately didn't find it selves eating here but the atmosphere of the pub/restaurant was lovely and the outside seating area overlooking the river was closed for refurbishment but I can imagine the views would be beautiful. We brought a car here and the added bonus of free parking to hotel visitors was a welcomed bonus. The room was nice and cozy and was cleaned daily by the staff, they even organised items we had left around neatly including folding pyjamas which I thought was a nice touch. If I had to nitpick. The room we were in had quite old windows which I can imagine being drafty in the winter however staying in spring/summer this offered a welcome breeze into the room as it was hot when we stayed. Additionally there is a smoke alarm on the roof with a bright clean flashing light which was a bit annoying when you're trying to sleep. Apart from this, it was a lovely, well decorated room which felt very secure. The bathroom looked recently redone and the shower was very powerful. As for the location, it's only a stones throw away from the center and around 20 minutes drive from attractions such as Chester Zoo. Overall, a great place to stay, highly recommend and im sure we will be staying here...
