On the final day of my trip to Edinburgh, I decided to visit The Coffee Cabinet, a quaint café conveniently located near my hotel, for breakfast. Seeking a relaxing start to my day, I was greeted by the café’s warm and inviting ambiance, making it an ideal spot for a memorable meal.
One of the most notable aspects of my breakfast was trying haggis for the first time. Haggis is a traditional Scottish dish made from sheep's heart, liver, and lungs, finely minced and mixed with onions, oatmeal, suet, and spices, then encased in the animal's stomach and boiled. Despite its unconventional ingredients, haggis boasts a rich, savory flavor that is both hearty and satisfying. The dish was skillfully prepared and left a lasting impression on me.
In addition to the haggis, I indulged in a stack of pancakes that were perfectly fluffy and generously topped with syrup. The combination of the traditional haggis and the comforting pancakes made for a delightful and satisfying breakfast.
To complement my meal, I enjoyed a cup of The Coffee Cabinet’s exceptional coffee. The rich, aromatic brew provided the perfect balance to my breakfast and added to the overall pleasant experience. As I sipped my coffee, I reflected on the wonderful moments I had in Edinburgh, feeling a mix of contentment and nostalgia.
After finishing my breakfast, I packed my belongings and prepared for my journey back to London. The visit to The Coffee Cabinet was a perfect end to my trip, allowing me to savor the local flavors and hospitality one last time before...
Read moreGood atmosphere, hate writing a bad review but the service was shocking. Ordered a green tea, iced coffee, scone with cream and jam. Scone came. Waited 10 min. No one else ordered after us. The girls were just chatting behind the counter. Had to walk back up to ask for our drinks again. They brought them. Brought black tea. Said we ordered green. She said she had no green and also had no cream for the scone, only butter. Very confused on the communication and delay. A customer shouldn’t have to ask again for their order and if you don’t have something and forgot you didn’t have it, that’s completely fine but the multiple things combined were strange. If I owned the shop, I’d want to know of this.
Edit to add based on response from business: I appreciate the professional response. I just want to emphasise again that no one ordered following us so I am confused how our ticket was lost. BUT mistakes do happen. If I was still in training so much so to not know the menu and that we do not serve green tea and cream (normal things to ask for), I would expect someone to be helping me closely. Otherwise, may be a stressful environment for trainee and a bad customer experience (which is this case). There were three girls behind the counter to help this trainee so may be worthwhile to evaluate your training program. Also if it were my business and someone made a mistake such as completely forgot a customer’s order, I would absolutely offer some type of small...
Read moreSunday morning, during the Fringe which might explain why our experience was so terrible: felt like everyone was badly hungover from the Saturday evening. Reached the counter, yawning barista (09:30 am) taking our order and presenting the card payment machine offering nothing less than 15% (up to 25%) tip … or no tip. I tip when I am happy, I won’t when I’m not. Here, I could not say ‘cause I just ordered. So no tip for now. Went to sit at a (dirty) table and started cleaning ourselves since no one seemed to care. Next table was dirty as well, other customers sat, did the same while waiter with untied long hair brought some breakfast to a third table, disregarding both cluttered and dirty tables our neighbours and us were sitting at. 20’ later, noticing another table of customers who ordered after us got their orders, I walked up to the counter asking for our coffees. I had to remind the barista what our order was, got them in 2’ with a faint word of apologies. Needless to say I did not tip for this...
