Almost all the dishes here are seafood based with one starter and one mains dish that is Pork based. Ribeye and Fillet steak are also available.
Fishers Fish Soup (£6.50 small) - Salmon and Smoked Haddock Cream Chowder. A timeless classic, the seafood chowder. A hearty, soul-warming dish that combines the large chunks of salmon and haddock with a velvety, creamy base. There’s a comforting creaminess about this soup making it ideal for this cold weather.
King Scallops, Jerusalem artichoke puree, black pudding, apple puree and hazelnut butter (£11.50) If you're seeking a dish that effortlessly combines exquisite flavours and textures, look no further than this creation. The heroes of this dish are undoubtedly the succulent Scallops, boasting a delicate sweetness that pairs wonderfully with the earthy notes within the ensemble. Cooked to perfection, their opalescent flesh is lightly seared to retain tenderness. The black pudding's earthiness adds an unexpected but delightful dimension to the overall composition whilst the apple puree offers a lively and invigorating contrast to the rich and robust elements on the plate.
6 Pacific Rock Oysters (£19.00) - we tried Tempura with Sriracha Mayo: A delightful combination of crispy and creamy. These oysters are delicately coated in a light and airy tempura batter, giving them a satisfying crunch with each bite. The heat from the Sriracha Mayo adds a spicy kick that balances perfectly with the natural brininess of the oysters. Natural with Lime, Chilli, and Cucumber Granita: For those who prefer a more refreshing and citrusy experience, the Natural Pacific Rock Oysters are simply divine. Served in their purest form, these oysters showcase their natural essence and pristine taste. What truly elevates these oysters to another level is the cucumber granita. This icy, refreshing accompaniment adds a cool and invigorating element to the oysters. Grilled with Smoked Salmon, Caper, and Dill Butter: Here the oysters are gently grilled, resulting in a smoky and slightly charred exterior that enhances their natural sweetness.
One thing to note is that the oysters are not cut free from their foot. You will have to do this yourself.
Halibut Fillet with Moqueca, King Prawns, Squid, and Palm Hearts (£31.00) Indulge in a culinary adventure with this exquisite fusion of flavours found in this dish. At the heart of this dish lies the Halibut Fillet, a treasure from the ocean depths. Renowned for its delicate and flaky flesh, the Halibut Fillet takes centre stage, asserting its presence with its rich, buttery flavour. Cooked to perfection, the fillet is tender and moist, effortlessly melting in your mouth. Accompanying the Halibut is moqueca, a vibrant Brazilian stew that infuses the dish with a burst of exotic flavours. The moqueca serves as a fragrant and tangy base, enhancing the natural sweetness of the fish while providing a harmonious blend of spices. With hints of garlic, peppers, and onions, this traditional Brazilian sauce beautifully complements the seafood ensemble.
Orkney Scallops with sweet cicely, cray fish, hazelnut butter and miso carrots (£30.00) This dish captures the essence of coastal flavours - big, fat, juicy Orkney Scallops, plucked from the pristine waters surrounding the remote group of islands at the top of Scotland. These oceanic jewels, with their tender flesh and delicate sweetness, remain locked into their shell and require some cutlery skills to loosen them without tearing them apart. They are served with the roe on swimming in a golden puddle of hazelnut buttery goodness. I was unsure of the miso carrots. These sliced, tender orange batons are glazed with the umami richness of Japanese miso. There is great depth of flavour here but just didn’t suit my palate.
Fishers in the City is a lovely seafood restaurant and the menu is a symphony of marine delights, from succulent langoustines to plump scallops sourced from Scotland's bountiful waters. Next time I’m having the Hot Shellfish Platter (£110.00 for two) as it...
Read moreWe were recommended to book by local friends who joined us for dinner, we were five people. We booked at 5.45 but arrived early and were ushered straight to the table. My husband arrived 5 minutes later at 5.50pm. We ordered main courses and were told by the waitress there would be a long wait because we didn't order starters. Why should that affect the waiting time? The food mains were good, I have to say unexceptional. The rocket side salad had clearly been around in the kitchen for a while, it was wilted and the brocolli was completely unseasoned. No salt in the salt grinder. The empty plates sat on the table for 40 minutes. The restaurant was very busy but busy because of the number of tables in proportion to the staff and the need to turn over the tables to fit in more covers. When the waitress asked if we wanted deserts she waved the menus and said she would see what she could do (i.e do us a favour) but she said there wasn't much time. We were told there were people waiting for our table because we had sat a little longer at the table after finishing and paying the bill. When I offered feedback on our experience the waitress said "its the festival", "we are really busy", "I had a huge table to deal with" and then she added "and you were half an hour late". This was patently not true so when i challenged her she said "that's what I was told by the front desk". I then asked to speak to the manager who was very aggressive and when I tried to leave he blocked my way on the stairs and said smuggly "you were half an hour late" as if to say the whole terrible service experience was our fault. I tried to point out that this was wrong but he just kept going being rude and stopping me from leaving the restaurant. Honestly I felt sullied, bullied and so disappointed by the experience. This was supposed to be our treat meal in Edinburgh. Luckily it was not typical of our experience in a city we rather like. Fisher's needs to reduce the pressure on diners it seems to me this kind of experience is all because of maximising profits rather than providing a lovely service and experience for its' clients. I read a review by Jay Rayner from 2017 which said it needs a "friendly whack". It still needs that in 2024. Such a...
Read moreAgain I rarely give out full stars but this place is seriously something.
I saw some people mention how theyre expensive,I can't fully comment cos I went during lunch but I can say for sure their quality ingredients justify their price to a great extent. Also lunch deals are insane, 20£ for 2 courses for something of this quality is really hard to beat.
The langoustines were amazing. First of all it's hard to find good langoustines, secondly not a lot of places allow you to order by piece. Here I got 2 pieces and they were more than happy to oblige if I only ordered one(I checked w them explicitly). Langoustines really tasted super fresh, my eyes opened when I shoved the first piece into my mouth. There's something inexplicable about insanely fresh seafood, and theirs is really top class given how they have 2 deliveries daily.
Linguine pasta was good too, their sauce is very unique with a hint of tomato and some heat, but certainly different from most. Seafood was fresh too.
And the sticky date pudding is the best I've had. Never had a sticky date pudding this intense, and the sponge was reasonably light given the mad intensity. As if that wasn't enough, there's a tremendous amount of shredded dates. The sauce and the cream worked brilliantly too. For someone who loves sticky date pudding, I'm really surprised the best I've had comes from a Scottish place
All in all, they're famous for a good reason. If there's any complaint, it's that they don't allow takeaway cos they don't have some license
Service was exemplary too, both of the staff who served my table were...
