Great food, drinks, service and accommodation.
I regularly stay in Edinburgh for work and this hotel is up there on my top 3 for overall experience.
I'd recommend this for short stays, weekends away with friends or couples and also business trips. It's not a 5 star hotel so don't expect those services but is both unique, fashionable, cosy and quaint and should be judged accordingly. Would be good as a base for a romantic break.
The hotel is located in the new town area, a short distance from the shopping area of Princes Street (where you can depart the tram from the airport - Waverly station is here too) and the food/pub area of Rose Street. The old town and other attractions are easily accessible by foot also.
Stayed here for one night (Monday to Tuesday). Accomodation is not so obvious and is accessed from the back of the bar. The room was comfortable, had a good bed, hot shower and was generally well equipped. My room (no 7) was quiet and situated on the 2nd floor, the only draw back could possibly be the wooden floors which tend to be a little noisy. Although I didn't experience this noise from other guests on this occasion.
Food was excellent. I opted for the Monday to Thursday £12.50 menu (starter and main). I sat at a booth style table and opted for chicken wings with a BBQ sauce dusted with sesame seeds for starter followed by an octopus and chorizo salad for main. Both arrived in a timely manner and were prepared well and presented as expected and were as tasty as they looked.
Breakfast was excellent, the hotel offer both the usual regional fayre (hot) and some interesting and tasty alternatives. Once again these are of a high standard. I opted for eggs Benedict with salmon. It's advertised as not being open for breakfast before 8am, the chef however is there from 7 and will put something together for you if required (early leavers etc).
There is a good selection of beers and ales here with various specials coming and going. A good selection of Gina, cocktails, spirits and wines to choose from also. A particular favourite drink of mine is beavertown neck oil, which is a fruity ale.
No doubt about it. I'll be...
Read moreI visited Rabble Taphouse and Grill for dinner yesterday and, to be honest, it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. I came in with high expectations, but everything went downhill the moment I walked through the door.
To start, the atmosphere was completely off-putting. I was greeted not by staff but by blaring, obnoxious music that made it hard to even think. Just as I was trying to settle in, things got even worse. Apparently, it was some kind of games night, which meant a woman screaming over the loudspeakers throughout the venue. It felt more like a chaotic frat party than a casual dinner spot.
Getting service was a challenge in itself. I spent nearly 30 minutes just trying to get a glass of wine. Despite making eye contact multiple times, I was completely ignored while a group of staff stood around the bar chatting. It was frustrating.
The food? Utterly terrible. I ordered wings to start, which came out dry, bland, and absolutely drenched in oil. It looked like the kitchen tried to mask the poor quality with a pile of melted cheese, but it only made things worse. Honestly, McDonald's wings if they sold them would probably taste better. The dish looked like something from a kid’s play kitchen, not a proper restaurant.
To top it all off, when I went to pay and politely mentioned the food was awful, the server was incredibly rude and dismissive. No apology, no interest in what went wrong, just complete indifference.
No one should have to spend their hard earned money at a place that delivers such poor service, dreadful food, and a chaotic, uncomfortable atmosphere. Rabble Taphouse and Grill presents itself as a decent restaurant, but in reality, it’s more like a loud, low-budget fast food joint with no regard for customer experience.
I definitely won’t be returning, except maybe to speak directly to the manager about the unprofessional and careless service. Save yourself the trouble and eat...
Read moreMyself and my partner have spent a week in the wonderful city of Edinburgh. While here we have visited many different restaurants from fine dining, (Wildfire) to cheaper eats, (McDonalds). We have tried various cuisines, (Italian, Chinese and traditional Scottish Cuisine). They have ranged in quality from good to great to formidable but Rabble was the worst service, worst menu choice and worst value for money.
Myself and my partner visited this place at midday as we were hoping to have some brunch which was advertised just outside the restaurant but when we went into the restaurant we were not given this menu. The choice of food was very limited but we decided to get the club salad which was advertised on the salads/sandwiches menu. I asked could I have it as a sandwich but I was told no. I then asked would it be possible for them to make me a sandwich again I was told, No as everything is pre-prepared which needless to say means that nothing is prepared fresh 😝 yet despite that we had to wait a long time for my partner to be served his salad which we were told was already prepared. My partner told me that it didn't even taste nice.
I just ordered a pot of tea and I was given one sachet of sugar which shows how mean the service is.
There is a service charge of over 10%. I have read some of the management response in relation to this which is that the service charge is optional but seriously who is going to ask for the service charge to be removed. If the service charge is truly optional then don't include it in the total bill.
We were charged 20sterling for tea and a salad that wasnt even prepared fresh.
So to conclude this was by far the worst restaurant that I have ever visited with very poor service that we were charged for and the worst value for money.
If you are in Edinburgh there are many better places to visit with accommodating staff and delicious food. Do yourself a favour and don't visit...
