I recently had a late lunch at your restaurant and wanted to give you some feedback to help make the experience even better. 1. Rice Quality and Texture: The rice was a bit dry for my taste, especially as someone who's familiar with Japanese food. It would be great if you could make the rice more moist and fluffy. That would make the dishes taste more authentic and delicious. 2. Katsu Chicken: I have to say, your katsu chicken was amazing! It was so crispy and flavorful, and it really made the meal enjoyable. It would be awesome if you could maintain this level of quality with the other menu items too. 3. Pan Asian Cuisine: If you're a fan of pan Asian food, your restaurant offers a good variety of options. However, I think it would be helpful to work on refining the flavors of the dishes so that the taste is consistently outstanding across the entire menu. 4. Lack of Free WiFi: One thing that could improve the dining experience is having free WiFi available. When I was there, I had trouble connecting to the internet with my 02 network, and it would have been nice to browse online while enjoying my meal. Providing free WiFi would be a great addition for customers who want to stay connected. By considering these points, your restaurant can work towards creating a more enjoyable dining experience for a wider range of customers. Thank you for taking this feedback into account, and I hope it helps you make continuous improvements to your establishment.

Best ramen I've had in Edinburgh. My family was craving a great Japanese meal after a couple of months in Edinburgh, I asked someone about good places to get ramen and they said wagamama (huge mistake, never been and will probably be reluctant to return) I then discovered Hakataya while doing some research and it was fantastic. A quaint little restaurant with an open kitchen, just like every good ramen place should be. We started with the sushi and shashimi platter (a mix of salmon and tuna) and it was great, well seasoned sushi rice, good quality fish and nori too. Wasabi I suspect wasn't the grated variety but that's alright. Edemame was also good, big portion size. I had the hell ramen as my main and I was blown away, not in terms of heat but the richness of the broth and flavour toppings. Some of the best tonkatsu broth I've had, I like it quite spicy and I can say this is a popular choice for a lot of people that are the same (with additional chili powder of course) I couldn't pin if the actual noodles were freshly made but overall the dish was great, the egg was a little overdone for me but that can be overlooked. We also had the miso ramen for our vegetarian, same deal. A very rich broth, hearty serving with good toppings. Tofu was the perfect consistency. Overall this is now my go to ramen place in Edinburgh, service was fantastic and staff are friendly. Would recommend booking just in case.

An unforgettable sushi-making experience!" We had the pleasure of attending Chef Tang's sushi class, and it was absolutely fantastic! From the very beginning, Chef Tang made the experience both engaging and informative. His passion for sushi and dedication to teaching really shone through. He guided us through each step, from selecting the freshest ingredients to perfecting our knife skills. The class was hands-on, and Chef Tang created a fun, relaxed environment that made learning easy—even for those with no sushi-making experience. After crafting our rolls, we got to stay and enjoy the sushi we made, which was the perfect way to end the experience. The rolls turned out delicious, and it was so rewarding to savor the fruits of our labour ! Chef Tang’s insights into the history and art of sushi added a deeper appreciation for the craft. My colleagues and I left feeling inspired and confident. We highly recommend Chef Tang’s class to anyone looking to learn from a true sushi master. 5 stars all the way!

Over £60 for two gyoza starters a chicken noodle dish, katsu curry and two alcoholic drinks.

The atmosphere wasn't very welcoming.

The gyoza was tasteless, the frozen boxed gyoza I get from Asda are better.

Katsu curry was good.

Chicken yakisoba was ordered without onion, due to a painful food intolerance. The dish arrived full of spring onion and at least half a white onion. Could not be ate.

Had to get up and ask for bill, server came to table saw that one dish was untouched, and that we were asking for the bill within less than 10 minutes of recieving order. No questioning as to why the dish hadn't been touched and ignoring large pile of onion that had been placed to the side, this was the same server who took the order and confirmed he understood the request for no onion. Had a cheek to hand the card machine over asking for a gratuity.

This is an expensive restaurant when compared to the other restaurants and bars along Rose street. When paying a premium I always believe I'm paying for the experience. I expect the food to be edible as a minimum anywhere but if I'm paying significantly higher than usual for a meal I expect the service and experience to be something noteworthy, to leave planning my next visit. This is not the experience here, overpriced, food that isn't up to scratch, service that is non-attentive and clearly doesn't care about the customer experience. If I could give 0 stars I would. Greatly let down. Do yourself a favour and visit one of the many other Japanese/Asian cuisine restaurants within walking distance it will be at least 50% cheaper and likely far better tasting food and better service. Went to Pret and got a sandwich after, the sandwich was great and service to match. It's not...

Very disappointing. The Tonkatsu ramen was probably one of the worst ramen I have ever tasted. Blend, watered down but still has that thick texture, which is wrong, weird, and very inauthentic. I couldn't even taste salt in that soup. The only flavour I could taste was from the spring onions. The 3 pieces of pork were cold, as in just came out of the fridge. Same with the marinated egg. I have a feeling that my soup was probably microwaved, as there was a thin film over one small patch of the soup when it came to my table. One should never serve microwaved food, especially soup noodles that are supposed to be pipping hot from the STOVE. The salmon and avocado hand-roll was wrapped in very old seaweed that was soggy and chewy. Completely wrong again. Soggy sushi seaweed is the biggest no-no.The only thing positive about that hand-roll and my lunch was that the sushi rice tasted almost authentic, even that was on the salty side.

I am obviously not Japanese - Asian, however - and never been to Japan but I did grow up in a country where multiculturalism is important, and where authentic 'ethic' food always served in its authentic ways and tastes, and almost always made by the people of the countries, or else, those restaurants won't survive. So I DO know what authentic Japanese food tastes like. And this place is not it.

When I made these comments to the waitress - a young Chinese - no apologies offered but simply "Oh, I'll pass that on to the chef." No apologies from the kitchen either. I have no idea how this place survived for so long, since the last time I went there was 5 years ago. One star rating because I walked out without food poisoning but a very unhappy customer. And I don't usually bother with...
