Very bad service. Visited this place for 1st time for our last dinner in Edinburgh. Despite a friendly greeting, the whole meal & experience was disappointing. The ‘service’ we experienced was shocking. We were sat in the middle of the dining room & it seemed as if we weren’t allocated a specific server & no one wanted to claim the table. We sat there for 15 minutes forgotten about before we had to ask a random server if we could order drinks. The drinks then took a long time to come. The server we grabbed was Josh who advised another man was our server but that he would take our table instead. This would have been great as Josh was lovely & attentive but he then didn’t assign himself to our table & just had any random server come to us.
When starters finally came, the plates were left on our table over 20 mins and our drinks were empty. Again we had to ask if we could order some more drinks & the table be cleared, despite plenty of servers walking past our table. Not good enough when you’re eating out for an expensive meal - it was a Sunday with the place half full, not overly busy. Food finally came after a very long wait (despite tables that were sat way after us being served way before us). My pork was nice & a good cut of meat. However, my partners rump steak was full of fat, and he couldn’t eat barely any meat from it. At this point we just felt ignored, no server came to ask how our food was, despite those around us seeming to get asked and a whole different level of service to ourselves. The whole meal we felt like a chore, as if no server wanted to claim us. Despite Josh being lovely & so helpful to the table next to us, I wish him or somebody would have used the initiative to sort the situation out, as a server came to us ONCE the whole meal, the rest of the times we had to ask for just basic levels of service. We then had our original server come over who seemed to suddenly be cheerful as he handed over a bill with over a £20 service charge. Out of ease, we just paid it but it was totally rude to even but that on the bill with the disgraceful service we had been given. We wanted to pay & just leave as soon as possible. We arrived for 6:20pm and didn’t leave until 8:10pm which was a long dining & unpleasant dining experience. I hope that Bar & Block take this review in mind & either employ more staff or simply train the ones they do have. We will never return & would discourage others from visiting. On hindsight, I wish we had spoken to management but the whole vibe of the place made us feel as if we were a forgotten table & that there was no space to even complain. Please improve, as this was a very disheartening last meal to...

Restaurant 10/10, quiet atmosphere, I would not consider it family-friendly (+15 years old), but for any type of person who wants to take a break and escape from reality since it is an environment that gives you a lot of peace.
Attention: 10/10 they assign you a waiter who will guide you throughout the experience both with the menu and recommendations that you ask for, they are very attentive to each of the clients.
• Drink: 10/10 when arriving water with a bowl of popcorn to entertain while ordering, at the end of a large variety, order a Pinot Grigio Blush from Novita, fruity with berries, the truth is coincidentally the perfect combination with the food what to order (although I could use a red wine with the Picanha, a 10/10 anyway)
*Meal: Part 1 Starter: 09/10 They are delicious, in my case I ordered hallumi fries, baji onions and prawns; All very delicious, it combines one with an intense flavor that, despite the preparation, continues with the essence of its original flavor. Note: I hadn't tried the yogurt sauce in years that was 100% essence of its roots, the prawn was cooked to perfection and with a touch of lemon even better, the hallumis were divine.
Main course: 10/10 8oz Picanha, medium cooked served with potatoes. A proper cut, preparation and softness of the meat, medium-rare potatoes and proper cooking
Dessert: 10/10 affrogato, a glass with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and an espresso on the side, a perfect dessert since it is light and delicious in my opinion.
Personal Waiter: His name is AMOS, born in Spain and half British, he has been here for 2 years and it is his first job since he has been there for years but he is a super friendly person who makes you feel at home and well cared for, 100/ 10 of the best employees I have ever...
Read moreThis is an honest review! Pathetic!! Lousy restaurant. From service staff all the way to their food.
This is the worst restaurant overall in Edinburgh . Even the local pubs and cafes here are way better and have attentive service staff than this restaurant. I was treated like an outcast and made to wait for nearly 10 minutes until the manager or front of shop attended to me, as I'm partially disabled this was not a good experience. Then when my guests turned up they were treatly poorly as well and made to wait 10 minutes before they were attended to. Totally non existant personal touch which I was not expecing for a established restaurant. Was not listened to about allegies, I don't have allergies. I have an intolerance to certain food, its different. Was'nt listened to, cast aside, dreadful people. I can do better than them. Always listen to your customer or you may have none.
The food is just poor if not awful. Nothing extraordinary or anything which can wow your tastebud. It was bland and boring. One of their menu is called surf + turf which is the most unforgettable meal and the worst! Menu indicated steak, if thats steak God help us, lousy and badly cooked. The desert was just sugary mess, and not worth the money. The atmosphere is nothing but loud piped music and very low lighting, so low it was hard to read your menu let alone see what food you were eating, maybe thats on purpose. Not worth the money, don't eat here go anywhere else for a meal but not here.
The worst...
