This place needs to either raise its game to the website promises of artisan cakes or lower its prices to match the "diner that doesn't serve mains" that is actually coming out. And raise its service and training. We were told by phone it was really busy and we must book, so we have a time we could hit and hurried down there to find it half empty. I'll also mention they hung up on us after taking the name so we couldn't say anything about accessible tables for our party.
We arrive and are seated by a rushed lady, menus come then an age passes while we see staff clustered at the kitchen door hanging about but not taking orders. I didn't look at the clock, but it felt a really long time and it's worse when you can see people just standing there not busy.
Order 3 desserts and 2 coffee drinks. One coffee comes out, mine doesn't. American waffle meal comes and it's huge, looks great. Sundae looks great, daughter enjoyed it. My cookie dough comes out and it's cooked. It's a cookie, not a cookie dough. A small, mediocre barely a hint of biscoff cookie. Takes a while to flag someone down, rest of the family has already finished eating. I ask to swap it because it's misleading. I order a waffle expecting it to be similar in size to the meals I've seen go out to others (including some which are obviously Belgian waffles due to shape). It's not, it's tiny. I also ask after my cappuccino, which comes out with the coffee all through the milk froth, milk is brown, but by this point I just want SOMETHING. Lotus biscoff crumb is discernible on waffle but no other taste to it. Because it was an exchange I didn't see the menu, but I notice now it says "layers of warm biscoff spread". Nope. I purchase biscoff spread regularly and that was not it and there were no layers. I think what I got was a brief squirt of caramel topping sauce.
Bill came and I was charged for the cookie dough, which they did take off on request, but given that other reviewers are saying they were offered comped items and vouchers for similar issues, I'm pretty unimpressed that we got it DOWN to "pay for everything" and now I find out the waffle was a phone it in version of the thing we paid for. This was on Mother's Day, all of the issues were on mine (obviously the mother) so a bit depressing that they didn't offer anything to help rescue my special day.
I'm glad that the server who had been wearing her mask below her face the entire time and who absentmindedly wiped her nose with her hand and then went right back to serving did not return to our table. Not what you want to see! Yick.
Staff don't appear to have been trained much, they don't know what to do, so they just gather. Couldn't use rewards app.
It's a 3/5 restaurant who managed 1/5 service and end up with a 2/5 review. I'm not saying I'd never go back, but if the next visit isn't MUCH better then that's the last straw, I won't be giving a third chance. And I'm getting American waffle, then there'll be actual food. Portion discrepancy between that and everything...
Read moreA detailed and honest review on Heavenly Desserts- Edinburgh. The issue with heavenly desserts is it is poorly managed and I have been twice and had 2 bad experiences because of this. Coros in Edinburgh is much better.
Firstly, on the positive side, our waiter Antonio was very attentive and lovely. He tried his best to ensure we left with a good experience. He was very friendly and ensured that he took our order correctly and checked we were okay throughout our meal and was the only positive aspect of my experience at Heavenly Desserts.
The issue at heavenly desserts seems to be in the kitchen and in the management as they simply don’t know what they are doing. This is the second time I have been since it opened and the first time, I tried to order 4 different items - Crumble, 2 tarts and a cornflake tart- and none of them were in stock. I did end up getting my item on the house but I received it last, after the group had finished eating their desserts which is just awkward as everyone likes eating together. We also receive our desserts one by one rather than altogether. I understand that this is to ensure freshness however, Coros in Edinburgh is much busier, a much smaller space and they give drinks as well as fresh desserts all at the same time, for groups as large as 10. Last night, we were a group of 5.
The second time I went to Heavenly’s- last night- I ordered the Tarte Au Citron, and again, received my item last after my group had finished eating. On top of this, I received an item that was unlike the one on the menu, covered in raspberry sauce. The presentation was also a mess. I was told that the menu doesn’t match the pack they are given and that it was meant to be covered in the sauce. I sent it back asking that it be made as described on the menu. We also got the wrong ice cream with our Biscoff croffle- but we didn’t raise this at the time and we had to send our “I’ll have what she’s having” back as we got the wrong ice cream in this. Our Spanish latte wasn’t served correctly either as the dish for the ice cube and milk was mixed up. Our crumble was given so late, that they gave us this on the house.
I observed the management at Heavenly Desserts last night and in my opinion, the issue is in the management. I never normally write reviews but in order for this business to thrive, I thought I’d give my honest feedback. The waitresses and waiters are absolutely lovely and try their best. But there is only so much they can do with poor management. I overheard several conversations that were concerning. Micromanaging staff and trying to have too much of a managerial presence will only lead to issues as your staff will feel like they are working for you, rather than working with you. At the end of the day, it is a team and working together as a team with the people who are providing the service will only have positive results on the business. I hope you resolve these issues...
Read moreBeen a regular to this place for a while, never been too impressed with the service but I like the choice and usually the taste of the food. However today I had the third bad experience in a row and I've decided this is it. First, the wait - we arrive at ~16:30h only to be told they're temporarily closed (no reason given, the place is empty at that time) and to come back in 30min. When we're back, half the tables still have dirty plates from previous customers, so obviously they haven't used the time to reset the place (and this is not the first time we've seen this happen).
We sit, we wait again. We order (I order the same as usual: crepe with strawberries, chocolate, whipped cream and a coffee). I order some strawberries on the side for my toddler who by then is also getting nervous as we've been waiting for quite a while to even place our order.
My crepe arrives, strawberries taste funny, they are smushy and kinda smell and taste fermented. Definitely not fresh, though the ones from my toddler seem better. I ask them what's going on, as I've ordered the same everytime I've been there and I feel the quality has declined. They say it's not strawberry season so they use frozen? ones and syrup (I've not asked for syrup and honestly don't like the taste at all). I tell them I wouldn't have ordered this knowing this was going to be served. They say they will fix it, but come back with some "fresh-ish" strawberries on the side and that's it. I still have the crepe with the syrup on top, so I can't eat the first layer and can't even taste the chocolate as this was soaked in it too (see picture).
We go to pay, and surprise! £6'5 for the side of strawberries that we ordered for my toddler (which they claim is on the menu although it came with no dips, so quite excessive). I tell them I'm not happy at all - they should have changed the crepe when I complained, at the very least, but charging £6'5 for 5 strawberries when they offer them as a side for £1'75 with the crepe, and after all the wait and bad experience... it's shortsighted. I told them I won't be going back, they offered a 10% discount (which with all our spent was of £5) but honestly that doesn't cut it. With all the money spent there every time we go, I'd expect more. Won't...
