We loved this restaurant. Nice ambience, friendly good humoured staff and lovely food. Will definitely be going back on our next visit to Edinburgh. We arrived at our reservation time and were warmly welcomed. It was quiet when we arrived at 18.30, but by 19.20 it was really busy, so I would recommend booking. We decided to have starters. I went for the Empenades De Carne, Argentinian mince meat filled pastries with salsa criolla. The pastry is like hot water pastry similar to small Cornish pasties, only a lot nicer. They were fantastic. My Partmer had Pimenton Relleno De Carne, Stuffed peppers with Mince Meat and garnish. She thought it was fantastic. Excellent starters over with, now for the mouth watering mains. I went with the 450g (16oz) Argentinian Rib Eye Steak, My Partner went with the 225g (8oz) Argentinian Rump Steak. Now some reviewers complained that the steaks came with no sides, but it clearly states the price is for the steak only, and you can combine it with the sides, but at the prices being charged, what do you want. £21.95 for a 450g prime Argentine Rib Eye Steak and £11.95 for the rump, that's good value in my book for lovely steaks. We chose the sides we wanted. a baked potato for my partner, French fries for me. Then to share we had the Griiled Mushrooms, Grilled Tomatoes and Onion Rings. My Rib Eye was cooked to a perfect medium, we'll rested and absolutely beautiful and really tender. My partner was delighted with her medium to well Rump. The first time she has actually had a steak, when we have been out and she is now looking forward to the next one. The French fries were well cooked, crisp, non greasy and lovely, her baked potato was well cooked and had nice crispy skin. She also had the mushroom sauce which was nice. The Tomatoes and mushrooms were cooked to perfection for our taste and the onion rings were nice, but I believe they were not home made. We decided to attempt a dessert. I went for the Tarta De Manzana, Apple pie and ice cream. My Partner chose the Tarte de Queso, Cheesecake with caramel sauce. My apple pie was divine and I would say it was in the top 3 apple pies I have ever tried, not too sweet or tarte, just the right balance. My Partners cheesecake was the nicest she had ever had, lovely crisp base and fantastic topping. Together with 4 bottles of Corona and 2 Cocktails, a WooWoo & Sex On The Beach it came to a very reasonable £95.30, £65.60 for the food & £29.70 for the drinks, and a nice 2 1/4 hours, spent in a nice restraunt. we left feeling happy, content and a little too full. Thoroughly looking forward to our next visit. If you love steak, give them a try, I'm positive you'll...
Read moreWe were overall disappointed with our visit. The staff were pleasant and attentive which was pretty much where the positives ended.
It may have been an oversight by us to book a table on a rugby weekend. The restaurant was operating a ‘special’ rugby menu, which translates to ‘a condensed menu so we can turn over the maximum no. of tables as quickly as possible’.
We both ordered med-rare fillets and they arrived about 3 minutes after ordering - which instantly made me suspicious that they weren’t cooked to order. Both looked like a different cut of steak (maybe rump?) i.e. fairly flat with grizzle. In fairness they were cooked to med-rare as ordered. The meat was below average in quality terms and accompanied by 3 dry salad leaves and one token plum tomato. For sides, fries were good but the grilled mushrooms were literally 5 whole mushrooms which had been slapped on a George Foreman grill for 2 mins then put in a bowl - no seasoning, sauce etc.
The main problem for us was that the restaurant was over capacity. There were far too many tables crammed into the space (
Read moreWe were having dinner yesterday and there are some good things and not so good things in this restaurant. Starters: we had the Picadita (very poor, some nachos, olives and cashew nuts, no any cold meat), Chimichurri on toast (it tasted more than a pico de gallo, still ok), calamar rings (average) and empanadas (really good, stuffing simple but tasty -only mince meat, would improve with either green olives or raisings-). We loved the criolla salsa that came with the empanadas, funnily enough it tasted more like chimichurri than the chimichurri itself. Mains: we ordered a 14oz fillet steak and a 16oz rib eye, both of them medium rate, cooked to PERFECTION. And I mean it; they were at the precise point of doneness and red all the way with a thin crust. My guess is that they were cooked sous vide beforehand, however I didn´t ask so not sure about this. We also ordered a mixed salad (good amount), chips (crunchy but I think not homemade) and pepper sauce (good) and ranchero sauce (average, a bit too acid). Wine: we ordered a spanish Rioja red wine, but tbh we expected a bit more, it was an average one, lacked body. Staff: very attentive and kind, and the food was served quick.
We will come back but I think we will be more selective on...
