Personally owning an Indian restaurant myself, I was very disappointed and taken by surprise the service given. Me and my wife had reserved a table on 20th June at 8:30pm. As we walked in we were made to wait on the doorstep for our table to be ready which was being used despite the fact that they had plenty of other seating available I just don’t think they could be bothered to do the extra work which being an Indian restaurant owner myself I do understand it’s extra work but customer service is very important. Moving on, we were taken to our table, as we sat down we were given sticky menus followed by a drinks list that had curry stains on it. Later on we placed our order which arrived very quickly first of those being the 2 x peach coolers which was over poured and the waiter that had served us dropped some over our table. I thought I’d just clean it myself anyways only to realise that we were not given any cutlery or napkins. So our starters arrived and the waiter said ‘enjoy your starters’ however we had no cutlery or napkin so had to request for some cutlery and napkin. The waiter serving told us to wait whilst our starters were getting cold only for him to help his colleague serve food. After that we had our mains which were absolutely awful. I’d hate to have that chef for my restaurant lol I’m sure they have rotation chefs but wow the mains were worse than the starters. Overall for the size of the restaurant and the stylish interiors, it did not match the service nor the food by miles not to mention the prices of the food for the portions given. Every business has its ups and downs I know that, I’m not saying avoid the place, give it a go but it really needs an upgrade on the service that the waiters give. As for the food it will never taste the same so maybe you will have better luck than me who knows! But for me personally unless there’s been a change in service levels and better touch on the food I’d potentially come back but for the current time I shall stick to going to chaaska next time.

Awful service. I went yesterday with a friend and, as soon as we sat at the table, the servers started coming insistently asking for our orders although we repeatedly asked for a moment. When I asked what options I could have as a vegan the server quickly said that I could have everything on the vegetarian menu. However, paneer (clearly an animal derivate) was in many of them, which demonstrated a poor understanding of dietary requirements. The same person also poorly commented on how my friend being Indian would’ve certainly known everything about the menu and could have told me - which I found very distasteful and offensive - and started talking to him in Hindi unprompted, which my friend did not appreciate. When we’re finally ordering we’re told that we can’t order several side dishes to share as it is “restaurant policy” that we order at least a main, despite we were ordering many dishes including a starter, several mains (as sides), rice, naan and chapati. So we proceed to order one veggie main and one as a side, and to our surprise when the food comes the main and the side (in picture) have the same exact size, averagely small, despite the unjustified price difference. In all of this our dishes are brought to us with no cutlery to serve them, and the rice comes way later. Moreover, my (vegan) chapati was served on top of the butter naan that my friend ordered, once again demonstrating the lack of sensibility towards different dietary requirements. All in all a very unpleasant experience and the arrogance of staff made it even worse. I would not recommend going there. I rarely leave negative reviews because I don’t like to spread negativity and I want to give people the benefit of doubt, but when all the servers at the restaurant including the manager behave unprofessionally I think it’s worth noting.

Rustom in Edinburgh is hands down my favorite Indian restaurant in the UK! I recently had the pleasure of indulging in their Lamb Karahi and Butter Chicken, and it was a culinary experience that did not disappoint. The flavors were absolutely incredible, and the dishes were cooked to perfection. The Lamb Karahi was tender and succulent, with a rich and aromatic sauce that had just the right amount of spice. The Butter Chicken was creamy, flavorful, and had the perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess. I can confidently say that Rustom's dishes are among the best I've ever tasted. In fact, I was so impressed with Rustom that I traveled all the way back to Edinburgh specifically to dine here again. It's been my go-to Indian restaurant since I first tried it back in 2019, and the consistency and quality of their food have never wavered. The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall wonderful dining experience. If you're a fan of Indian cuisine, I highly recommend Rustom. Whether you're craving classics like Butter Chicken or exploring their extensive menu, you won't be disappointed. It's worth the journey, and I can't wait to return for another unforgettable meal at Rustom.

I recently visited this restaurant and was quite disappointed. Firstly, the place is not well-ventilated, making the dining experience uncomfortable. The staff were overly pushy, standing over us and repeatedly asking us to order before we even had a chance to look at the menu. We were pressured into ordering mains immediately, only to find out there was no real difference between the main and side dishes, which is apparently their "restaurant policy." The manager was quite rude and dismissive when we inquired about portion sizes, vaguely stating that they vary. The food itself was very oily, and despite my friend being a vegan, they showed no regard for dietary requirements. Most of the staff seemed clueless about vegan options. Overall, it felt like their only priority was to sell as much as possible, without any consideration for customer satisfaction. I’ve uploaded a photo of the veggie, which were supposed to be a main dish comparable to the dal makhani, but as you can see, it was far from satisfactory. Very disappointing experience.

Rustom is a fantastic Indian restaurant. We had paratha which was flaky, fried and gorgeous. I could have eaten 10! The naans were soft and well cooked. No burnt patches. The pilau rice had loads of fresh spices and cloves in and was cooked nicely, not too bitey. The paneer tikka masala tasted great, a sweet coconut sauce with big lumps of fresh paneer. The sindhi biryani was surprisingly spicy and had lots of tender chicken. It came with a vegetable curry sauce. The lamb in the lamb shank nehari practically fell off the bone it was so tender. The chicken karahi was similarly great. Well cooked meat and flavourful sauce. Service was really good and nothing was too much trouble. One waiter in particular was incredibly nice. He recommended us some dishes and was happy to chat to us. He thought we might be European but we explained we were just on holiday from England. Sadly I didn't get his name but he made our night. The restaurant was clean, warm and well lit. We will definitely go back when we visit Scotland again! Highly recommended.

I have now been 4 times and every time the food gets better. Me and my partner found this restaurant by mistake at the fringe festival last year and the food was so good we have travelled back for the soul purpose to get dinner here from Paisley to Edinburgh Last time we were In, I went with my mum and fiance, we ordered the seekh kabab karahi, the lamb biriyani, the lamb shank nehari and pashwari naan. With popadoms to start, we also had a bottle of the house merlot. It was absolutely amazing. We all agreed it was the best curry we've ever eaten, I was surprised when my mum said it as she has been to sri lanka and ate curry for breakfast lunch and dinner. Also for those wines snobs, although the wine is quite nice, they do BYOB so you can pick a bottle of your favourite £20 bottle of red of a bottle of champagne and enjoy it with your curry at just a small corkage price.... actually such a nice touch
