I mean this review entirely as a positive critique. It’s highly rated, which is why I initially came here. But have to share my experience as to not mislead others. I may have come on a bad day for the server, but had my regular order as a lactose intolerant person (Latte w/Oat milk.) either the barista made a mistake or forgot but the coffee was made with regular milk. Luckily I didn’t finish it and the went back which the server remade it for me with the Oat milk; just as he put the milk down to froth an order came in for some pastries and he left the milk on the machine unattended for a minute or two as he went and put the order away. Once he handed me my coffee it was burning hot and took 15minutes to properly cool down and did not taste very good at all and unfortunately wasted it. I only believe that as a server, if you made a mistake with a drink to make sure the next one you make can make up for it. I came all the way from Oxford after a friend highly recommended Old Woods Cafe, and I can confidently say – it was 100% worth it!
I ordered the Full Scottish Breakfast (£12.95), and it was absolutely spot-on. Every item on the plate was perfectly cooked — the sausage, black pudding, hash browns, eggs, and even the toast were fresh, flavourful, and satisfying. It’s the kind of breakfast that fills you up and leaves you smiling.
What made the experience even better was the warm and friendly staff who made me feel genuinely welcome. The place is also incredibly clean and well-maintained, which adds a lot of comfort when you’re dining out.
For the quality, the portion size, and the great service, the price is more than reasonable. If you’re ever in the area — or even if you’re not — this place is worth the journey. I’m so glad I took the recommendation. You won’t...
Read moreNice service, good food, and fair prices. You may be wondering - what is preventing the Old Woods Cafe from getting that elusive 5th star? The aux. I listened to Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” not once, not twice, but 9 times consecutively. The second time I didn’t notice, but by the third/fourth play I was on the verge of pulling my hair out. By the seventh play I was laughing maniacally like the joker. I now understand how it feels to be a true crazy person. Will be...
