Their captivating performance and soulful vocals created an enchanting ambiance that added an extra layer of magic to the pub. It was a musical experience that tugged at the heartstrings and made the evening truly memorable. Trust me, this singer alone is worth the visit.
Of course, no pub experience is complete without good food, and The Canon’s Gait delivers on that front as well. The waitress was lovely and tried to accommodate us for a big table and it was busy there. But as soon as my family arrived, he walked out and told us "can you stop taking the chairs and blocking the entrance, i didnt know you have a big group?!". Definitely there is a much nicer way to say it but oh well, what do we know right? He just probably looked down on us already just because we are a bunch of Asian people and assuming we have no manners or so. First, I already told the waitress how many people we had, i already saw she was talking to him while looking at me (not our fault that you guys didnt communicate clearly!). Secondly, we tried to grab chairs from empty tables because there wasnt enough staff there to help us while it was busy there. If we had just all stood there at the entrance. That would have been more like blocking it. I said "its okay, we can leave" but he said "you dont have to leave" and tried to grab some chairs for us with a clearly annoyed facial experession. But at the end, we had to leave because there was one of us didnt have an ID while we have been out drinking out all day without a problem. She has a passport image but not enough. I understand the under 25s challenge policy but it seems more like he didnt want to serve us anyway so tried to find a way to kick us out. Definitely got a hint of racist and discrimmination there. From beginning to the end, not a single smile or an apology from him. I thought being polite is a British culture thing but maybe not everyone does it or especially not toward everyone or other races i guess.
Probably our fault for coming there and tried to have some lovely drinks for a Saturday night without researching the place first. Read some reviews and also noticed quite a lot of comments about how rude the bar manager was to other tourists and some towards Asian people. Edinburgh has been amazing and beautiful but the last day here has been ruined by one person. Such a shame! Hope the bar owner see this comment and maybe...
Read moreI have never had such different experiences in the same restaurant, on back to back days, in regards to the service. First thing first- the food is really good and the restaurant is clean and is situated in a very good location and has a lot of space. With regards to the service, yesterday it was pretty good. However, when I went back tonight , because of the good exercise last time, it was completely opposite. The waitress was uninterested and disrespectful to say the least. I sat at a 4 persons table, because they had free seating as the restaurant was half empty. The waitress just plonked the drinks menu, in front of the diagonally opposite chair, without even mentioning it was the drinks card, which they do in any restaurant as a common courtesy. My drink (a cocktail with lemon and lots of ice )was then again “plonked” in front of the chair in front of me (and not in front of me) ; again without even speaking to me (as a common / routine restaurant courtesy) . I was not even provided straws. I went back today because of the good experience on Saturday, but if the service oscillates between very good to downright rude/disrespectful, it’s better that the management makes amends and takes this seriously. I would not...
