A little gem for anyone wanting a nice pint or homemade food in a pub while in Doncaster town centre Olde Castle Hotel is the place to be, 5mins walk from Doncaster Town Visitor Moorings on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation. This pub has the best homemade food in any pub I’ve been to in the UK. The staff give you a warm welcome and will chat to you like one of there mates even if your not from area which is what you want. There is so many food offers to choose from even do Sunday dinners 2 for £10 which is a bargain and a range of drinks including them spirits which everyone loves and free pool on a Monday for any pool fans.

This pub is full of foul mouthed people, who cant seem to get in other pubs, in the daytime. The landlord doesn't seem to care, he is taking their cash. Some of the bar staff are rude. Much better pubs in town.Music was ok. Fairly empty pub speaks volumes for a Saturday evening at approximately 8.30pm

Absolutely spot on town pub. Food is lovely, all freshly cooked. Saturdays there is karaoke with a fantastic set up. Has to be the best place in town by far. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit.

A thoroughly dreadful experience that I will not be repeating. I had booked a breakfast on an online booking tool and had received confirmation that this was booked.Having travelled a round trip of 50;miles from Sheffield I was told the booking had been cancelled. On further investigation I discovered The merchant The Olde Castle Hotel had cancelled my booking but failed to notify me. I now have a Groupon for 2 breakfasts that is totally wasted because I would not go back there now even if you paid me. You state that you did not cancel but Groupon has told us your auto cancellation cancelled the booking so what you are saying is untrue. Also we arrived bang on twelve as there was already a person eating a breakfast at that time. We were told karaoke started at 12 so why your booking tool, states you can choose 12 midday is baffling.indeed only a month ago we came at 12 midday. Basically you stuffed up and should hold your hands up! We were not late, we did not cancel and the person you have working behind the bar is a misogynist! Hang your...

Hidden Doncaster gem for good food in a nice space.

Went here for Sunday Lunch with my family, given a table for four in the rear section of the pub which is a very open, light and spotlessly clean place. Service was friendly and efficient. The lunch was fantastic, cooked to a very high standard, I went for the pork which was cooked to perfection. Great portions and a proper rich pub gravy. I would recommend getting the cauliflower cheese as an extra as this was also very good. They had an offer on at the time which meant the whole meal for four people was very reasonable.

Choice of desserts are proper classics, would recommend the chocolate concrete with custard.

Will be visiting again. Highly recommend. Do not know of anywhere else in town that does a sunday lunch as...

Colin, the bar/waiter is a star, so service gets 5 stars. Sunday lunch. Nice portion of beef, large but slightly over-done Yorkshire. Roast potatoes 2 more minutes required. Veg, not bad, but more care peeling the carrots (an odd black bit). Treacle sponge and custard, 5 stars. An old pub, tired but works, windows need a clean. Clientele, mmm interesting! If you want VFM and old charm for a City centre Sunday lunch this is the place. PS: Thought it was shut down when I visited Saturday night, but it's closed then. I rang to check my booking was good twice, no return call, so we went on the Sunday thinking it would be shut. It was a Groupon Deal, they were useless in verifying. Ho hum, so if you book for Sunday lunch their booking system does work well, other than the...
