Rothwells Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Doncaster

Used to go in here a lot in my youth and had a great reputation often queue’s. Haven’t been for a long time walked in ordered a small and regular fish & chips. Seemed to be a personality clash between chef and woman serving. She said the order twice, chef not acknowledging on her third attempt he said he’d heard but how would you know? On next orders he was bickering with her on taking orders and told her she should try doing his job as he had the front and restaurant to do. When the order arrived only the small was done to which she said there was supposed to be a regular. When this came it was the same size fish as my partners so I politely asked if it was right to which I got a sharp reply that’s the regular size. If they are identical why am I paying app £2.50 more. Portions are uncompetitive for £8 in this case. Another lady fortunately had a look over and came over with an extra small fish to compensate being attentive and realising the situation (thank you to this lady you gained 1 star). Chips were slightly undercooked and so few but fish was cooked well. For such an iconic well known chippy you need to communicate effectively and calmly if fronted by customers. Definitely maintain attention to detail and hopefully give portions to justify cost...

Walked past the store on Saturday evening, nobody was near the door when I stepped past on the public path. Lady who works in store then proceeds to open the door and in quite an unsafe manner, threw herself out the door as fast as she could almost knocking me in the head with her elbow and arm in the process. The path was empty aside from myself, my partner and maybe three other people nowhere near myself. Told her to watch where she’s going and she followed me down the street gobbing off at me making derogatory remarks about my mother (I’ve no idea who this lady is either)

Control your staff and I really hope this member wasn’t a manager or owner - didn’t expect to be chased by a rabid worker just passing the shop. Absolutely disgusting behaviour, if she follows people down the street kicking off and being threatening she’ll end up in a situation she doesn’t want with someone far less patience...

I paid for a regular battered haddock meal deal for £10.85. The meal came with my fish of choice, chips, my side of choice with large pot of tea or coffee which you get 2 to 3 cups out off. The lovely waitresses that served me brought out extra hot water for me to top up my teapot.

The food was phenomenal, the fish is the best I’ve ever had. Fresh and the batter, to die for. The chip was clearly made in house and not bought in because they was amazing, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. My side of mushy peas tied the experience up as a party in my mouth.

The only problem I had was that I couldn’t fish my food and I didn’t want to stop eating.
