Island Diner — Restaurant in East Lindsey

Went in here this week.

1. we ordered 2 jacket potatoes, 1 with only cheese and one with only beans. My husband is lactose so intolerant to cheese and given that it’s right in the middle of a market and theme park, not a good idea for him to eat cheese! The order came and it was one with just cheese and one with Beans and cheese?? We told them that the order was wrong but to save wastage I offered to eat the beans and cheese one and said to add the beans to the cost and I would pay that separately… but to take the other and replace with one with just cheese! Not a hard thing to comprehend? Well so we thought…
2. the waiter came back over to us to tell us that we had only paid for one cheese and one beans so again I said that’s fine, charge me for the beans ( that they got wrong). He seemed confused but I carried on eating while waiting for my husbands order of just beans.
3. Husbands order came. There were stringy bits in it. I thought it was just bean juice (not nice but..). Husband carried on eating. Got to the potato and there was cheese on it? They had tried to scrape off the cheese instead of making another one! Disgusting!
4. owner asked if everything was alright, we said ‘ no not really’ she said ‘I’ll be back in a minute’ owner returned asked what the problem was, I said ‘ we asked for blah blah, and you brought us … before I could say what they had brought she snapped ‘ well I didn’t bring you anything but there you go ‘ I said ‘okay’ but we ordered blah blah and this is what was brought and again she snapped ‘well it wasn’t me that brought it so…’ at this point I lost it said ‘he’s got an intolerance to cheese and you won’t listen’ and said ‘forget it’ and stormed out! My husband stayed behind while the owner said to him ‘ I’m the owner, if you had brought this to me I could e done something about it ??? My husband said ‘ we just tried and you were rude!’ She denied being rude! Now I work on customer service, I know it is a HARD job to please everyone but I also know that listening is key. I know that my little review won’t go anywhere but if you read this, I am happy to assist in showing how customer service should really be done because your attitude as the owner was abysmal. I really hope you take this on board and at least listen to your customers and not go to the defensive straight...

Came in here because my daughter saw the picture of the waitress on the window with roller skates on so was expecting an American experience, as far from that as you can possibly imagine. The restaurant was like an icebox it was absolutely freezing so much it was actually warmer outside, dirty tables, no-one in a rush to clean them. There was some sort of meeting taking place next to the tills but no-one jumped to serve or to alert someone else to serve and waited around 5 minutes. After paying no drinks were given no sauces ect. Sat at the table and waited so long for food my children were shaking from the cold a man commented on the coldness from a different table and the lady who seemed to be the manager offered him a random fleece from behind the counter. When our food eventually same we were given no sauce and no drinks so I had to go to the counter again I asked a younger girl could I please have drinks and sauce, at the time she was about to take a tea to another table she was right next to the drinks so she put the tray down and got me the drinks the manager then barked at her "that teas going to be cold in a minute" no offer to take over and help her she could clearly see the girl was multitasking yet she was doing nothing. There were several other times she was rude to the girl and it was noted by customers. The food was very basic, served in a plastic tray burger was tasteless no flavor at all. Sauce sachets of ketchup looked like they suffered from anemia. Kids were so cold trying to eat they had to get up and walk around to warm themselves up. To top it off took the kids to the toilet which was horrendous and neglected and there was no toilet roll. Clearly not checked.

Manger lady had an altercation with a customer whom called her a "rude **" before walking out with her child.

What an appalling establishment!! I have only given it one star as there was no option to rate it as zero!! Firstly it is cash only but there are no signs stating this, you only find out when you get to the till! We ordered 3 toasties and a child's chicken nugget meal. We waited over 20 minutes to be served with a cold child's meal! As for the toasties there was no way these had seen a toaster for more than a minute and were awful! The only reason we ate was because we had paid over £20 for 4 meals and drinks, and had waited so long for it. There is also only one toilet which is used by women, men and disabled customers - we decided against using the toilet for this reason! The staff were also miserable, no friendliness at all and looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. They also started clearing the plate away before we had all finished!!
