First class food and service. Eat in or take out - we are in in a Sat afternoon. Not currently open Sundays at time of writing this review. Dining area very spacious, plenty of room between tables so not at all cramped. Air conditioned/heated. Nice toilet facilities. Everywhere spotlessly clean. Food delicious and good value for money. We had cod and chips with mushy peas and fish fingers (home made and sizeable) with same. Used to being asked by waiting staff when checking back after service if the "food is allright"' but don't feel the question is always genuine - something they 'have' to do - but not here: I believed our waitress really was interested. As it happens everything was more than ok. Another plus factor - proper sized, quality serviettes and decent cutlery. Small things make all the difference. I note from signage on the counter there is limited vegetarian/vegan options but I understand they are trying to do something about this. Child friendly with highchairs. OAP and child meal offers. Selection of hot and cold drinks...
Read moreI had the special - regular haddock, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter and coffee - for £9.95 (I think). It was a HUGE piece of fish (goodness knows what the jumbo would have been like!) and there were plenty of really nice chips. The mushy peas were lovely. I found the batter on the fish light and crispy but much too greasy and pulled most of it off and just ate the fish. The service was good and the staff I encountered were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was very clean and well laid out, although I wouldn't have described it as having any kind of "atmosphere". It was like a big cafeteria, a bit dark I thought, but it was fine. I would probably go again, but would like to try a few other places first due to the...
Read moreMr Chips used to be the best chippy in the area but a few years ago the owner retired and the place stood empty. We were all excited to hear that it had reopened (I believe by the former owners son, but I could be wrong) We ordered fish, chips and peas to take away. The price was very reasonable and the wait not too long. The fish itself was very nice, good crispy batter, lovely white flakes. The mushy peas were really good too. The disappointment was the chips, they were over cooked and hard and crispy. It was a nice trip down memory lane to go to Mr Chips but ultimately disappointing. I even threw some chips away because they too overdone for my taste. And I never...
