Went for dinner here for our Wedding Anniversary. Chose the tasting menu. Started badly with a Lincolnshire Poacher croquette with Parmesan shavings and an in house HP sauce. The croquette had no discernable cheese flavour and that included the visible flakes of Parmesan. The in house HP was far too vinegary and would have overwhelmed both cheese flavours had there been any. Then things improved. It sounds as if from a transport caf menu but the the focaccia and roast beef dripping transported me back to my childhood in the Fifties. The dripping is the jelly at the bottom of the dripping whisked with butter and was absolutely delicious. Next was the best French Onion soup I have ever had followed by gorgeous thick flakes of smoked Haddock and poached egg. Sadly we then took another nose dive with the Roast loin of Fallow Deer. This had been Sous Vided to death, tender yes but almost completely devoid of flavour. It was supposed to have a puree of what should have been beautifully sweet Black Garlic but that also had gone walkabout. The flavour was of the accompanying Squash Puree. Redemption time again with the two desserts; my wife tells me the Sticky Toffee pudding was good and I can attest to the flavoursome Bishop Bigod cheese on toasted Brioche with Apricot sauce. Wine list is small and well priced . The restaurant is small and intimate which is good however, you only need a group of load diners on the only table for four to raise the noise level and make conversation uncomfortable. The Waitresses are a delight, no pompous side to them just charming and smilingly helpful. It is a shame that there were a couple of redundant courses but the overall evening was enjoyable and the restaurant is an undoubted asset to Louth. I wish you all well and...
Read moreThis place is the amazing! From the wonderful staff to the flavoursome, inspiring food the Auction House house is doing something really special in Lincolnshire.
I took my mum for a belated Christmas gift. We received a wonderfully warm welcome and was made to feel at home.
We opted for the 6 course chef's menu. The food really packs a punch and you certainly will not leave hungry. We also ordered a side of chips, mainly because I am greedy......but the God's of food have smiled down on these bad boys. They are the BEST chips I have ever eaten! The beef dripping and bread nearly made my mums head explode, and from start to finish we smiled and waxed lyrical about the quality of the food.
The cheese board is a must and the quince jelly is delicious...especially with a nice drop of port.
The cocktails and drinks in general are spectacular. I can highly recommend the Yuzu whiskey sour and spicy margarita.
The drinks prices have been placed perfectly.
All in all this team are doing something really special. You can see the chef's passion and influence in every dish and more importantly the care they have for their customers.
I have been to a number of 1 star and 2 star restaurants and this would be right amongst them. This is going to be a place food reviewers and tourists flock to. I have already thought about my next 2 visits.
Thank you to everyone on the team for giving us a wonderful and...
Read moreThis review is not about the food, the service or the style of the restaurant, it is about their deceitful attitude towards their PAYING customers. This was not the first time of going there, but, it is without doubt the last! We booked a table for four for lunch two Saturdays ago, and paid an £80 deposit that is non-refundable, absolutely fine so far; the condition is that if you have to cancel the booking at any time you can pass the booking deposit on to your next booking, absolutely fine. On trying to book a table a week or so later my wife was told by a waitress that we had lost the deposit as we didn’t book at the time of cancelling even though this is not what we were told and not what is stated on their website! When a talk with the owner was offered he backtracked and said yes we could carry the deposit forward as I said the I would take them to the small claims court and obtain a County Court judgment. This episode left such a bad feeling that we do not want to eat in or recommend this restaurant ever again. You can keep the £80 (I can afford it) but, and I’m sure that you won’t because your greed addled brains will never think of it, do the honourable thing and donate MY £80 to Daniels Kitchen food...
