Helens bakehouse is a lovely little place for something nice to eat. The food is well cooked and very tasty with a good choice on the menu. They even have oat milk as an alternative to dairy. The breakfast 'builder' is a particular favourite of mine. You can choose your own items for a cooked breakfast, which is ideal for anyone with certain food intolerance or vegetarians. The tearoom is very busy and at certain times a day there maybe a wait for a table. The tearoom itself is small, and it is clean, but unfortunately, the toilets are upstairs, so it is not ideal for anyone with disabilities. There are also not really enough room round tables for wheelchairs or pushchairs/prams. There is seating outside in the summer months and during bouts of good weather. The reason I gave Helens 3 stars is because of the smell of the cooking, and sometimes it gets into your clothes and hair. The kitchen is in the tearoom behind a bar type separator. I have even been in when it's been so bad it gets in your eyes!. And also the lack of disabled amenities. Having said this, it hasn't put me off as the food is nice and service is good with pleasant staff. They also sell jams and preserves, and you can also...

I popped in to ask if they had any gluten free bread at all and they did so my friend went inside. Once seated my friend spotted they did American pancakes with fruit and syrup i asked if they did a gluten free version of this and to our delight was told they make the pancakes fresh and she had gluten free flour so yes they could.I had a doorstop sausage sandwich and both my friend and I were impressed with the food , quality the freshness but overall the staffvrry polite and it was lovely to see they buy local produce to cook. We also noticed how alkt of the customers are daily regulars and treated the...
Read moreReturned from Solihull with friends from Dudley so they could experience this almost unique afternoon tea venue. There are plenty of other freshly cooked options but we were there for tea at lunchtime. Freshly made sandwiches with a choice of fillings served first with piping hot tea in crock pots with woolen cosies. A portion of coleslaw and sweet potato fries as a bonus. A slight wait for the freshly baked scones, served cream melting hot. Then the crowning glory of in house baked cake and tray bake. It is not the Ritz, the crockery does not match etc, but the experience is hard to find anywhere else. Our friends wished it was nearer so they could visit again. The staff are superb and Helen who was in attendance rules the bakehouse with friendly authority. Long may...
