Farmhouse Bakery — Restaurant in East Suffolk

A month in advance I asked the Baker directly if they can make a full gluten free chocolate cake with the inside and outside layers and coatings be of soft, creamy and moist texture and not hard and dry similar to frosting or icing. To which I was told no problem. However this was not the case - as cake sponge was dry inside and the outer layer was dry and hard. It tasted artificially too sweet as if compensating its other flaws but they nailed the cream filling in the middle of the cake which was the texture I was asking for. 2 days before cake collection I rang and asked them if everything is still going okay with the cake. They said all is fine. A day before the cake collection they rang to inform me they could not provide a full chocolate cake and requested to replace the cake with vanilla sponge. They could argue that I could have simply said no thanks and find another Baker but they let me know this a day before my child's birthday. The Farm House bakery in Halesworth could not deliver what was requested. I emailed them twice on 2 separate platforms before my review here less than 48 hrs ago and so far no response. Gluten free cakes are more pricey then regular cakes. I paid the full price. Not worth...

Very disappointed to say the least. Ordered vegetarian breakfast. Took a long time to come we heard the cook say the vegetarian Sausages are frozen she had put them straight into the deep fat fryer second lot were put in the microwave then fried could not get a fork in the sausage! Poached eggs were solid. We could have a accepted the breakfast if there had been an apology or an alternative offered but none came forward. When we asked for real soughdough toast it was put on the table without any butter or knives and the face on the waiting person was that of a child who was throwing a temper tantrum....

We have been here before and had a pleasant experience however, this more recent visit was not. The cupcake for my granddaughter had synthetic cream which was wholly unpleasant. We purchased tea for two, a sausage roll, a pasty, a loaf of cheese and onion bread to take with us. No cutlery was given, cupcake inedible, cheese and onion bread displayed mould the very next day. Staff unfortunately were sullen and more interested in their personal forms of communication which were in their back pockets.
