So I drove three hours from London to meet my new bit on the side (don’t judge, we’ve all been there).

We ended up at Royal China for dinner, and honestly, it was like stepping into a Chinese-themed episode of Fawlty Towers.

Chaotic decor, odd little layout, and, my personal highlight, a wall-mounted thermometer in the toilet. You know, in case you fancy checking the rooms microclimate mid-poo. Because… why not?

That said, the food? Absolutely delicious. Probably one of the best Chinese meals I’ve had in a long time. Great portions, beautifully cooked, and not a drop of oil slicking across the plate. The prawn toast was so good that I nearly left my potential new ‘man friend’ and proposed to the chef.

And can we talk about our waitress? Long brown hair, warm smile, and a sense of humour sharper than a satay skewer. She made the evening. Honestly, she deserves a medal for keeping the whole operation running with grace and good vibes.

So yes, slightly bonkers ambience, but a proper gem of a meal. If you ever find yourself in Lowestoft, whether for love, a Hinge date, or the result of some deeply questionable life choices, Royal China is absolutely worth the detour.

I’ve seen a few negative reviews floating around here, but honestly, that just adds to the charm. And let’s be real, one of the complaints came from someone called Karen,...

My partner and I decided to have dinner here a couple of nights back and felt the need to leave a review because of how lovely it was.

Lately, we have been through a really tough time in our personal lives and so we took a break to the seaside in the need of a pick me up. We have been coming up to Oulton Broad for several years and got takeaways from this restaurant but never dined in.

We decided to eat in on this occasion and I couldn’t be more pleased that we did. It was such a calm and pleasurable experience.

We were seated and our orders were taken by a very pleasant and bubbly lady working front of house (didn’t catch her name). There was also another lovely lady working who brought us some of our food.

The food was brought out to us quickly and it was all perfect! I even mentioned to the lady that I haven’t been fond of Chinese cuisine for a long time (much more the boyfriend’s preference) but had been swayed by this experience.

Experiences such as this can either make or break your time away but this very much made it. Thank you Royal China, we will 10000%...

DO NOT EAT OR ORDER FROM HERE!!!! Ordered a takeaway from here and waited 2 hours for the food, I rang and asked how much longer and then was told it had left the restaurant and was on its way, 45 minutes passed and the order arrived but it was the complete wrong order, the correct order finally arrived and food was stone cold and tasted horrible, phoned to ask for a refund of even just half the order and the women was so rude tried to make excuses not to do it and even blamed my tastebuds she finally agreed to send a refund via card if I sent my details through an email, I did this and she then phoned saying she would only refund me if I drove the food I hadn’t eaten back to the restaurant!! This was not possible to do so I will NEVER order again from here and would advise everyone else not to do so as they will think of any excuse to refuse a refund and will be rude down the phone too!! Absolutely appalling customer service and the worst food...

Visiting the area and chinese is my favourite food. Found this gem that serves take away or let's you have the dine in experience. We didn't book but was made to feel welcome. The food was lovely, served fairly quick but cooked perfectly and so much flavour. By far our new star chinese restaurant, just wish it was more local to me so I could visit more regularly.
