My first visit to Charlie Brown's has firmly cemented it as a favourite. We were warmly greeted at the door and had drinks in our hand swiftly after. I was a guest of a regular and the owner was chatty, friendly and warm. The decor is Betty Boop American chic, with many famous black and white photos adorning the walls and a large Betty standing proud in the room. Reaching the toilets is an act of balance down the stairs. Not sure if there is a disabled access upstairs as I didn't ask. But they were clean and well decorated. Food portions are very generous! You will not go hungry. The food is tasty and the prices reasonable for the amount you get. Cocktails are fantastic. Beware it would be easy to keep them flowing! We also ordered bottles of wine. If you have room for pudding (we shared) they are also large and unctuous. My friend's face at the size of the banana split was hilarious! All in all you cannot go wrong with an evening at Charlie Brown's. At the end you will be full of food and good humour. I will be returning with my family next time...
Read moreWe saw 4.6 stars in google and thought this must be the best burger place to eat in Eastbourne. Maybe it is I don’t know but we were disappointed. Perhaps our expectations were too high. The burger buns were soggy and the type you could buy off the supermarket and microwave. The chips and onion rings which I was hoping to be handcut and homemade they were probably McCains or some other frozen brand. I ordered the chilli burger and thought I ‘d get some special chilli sauce but instead it came with a tomato and basil sauce and a few fresh cut finger chillies. That along with the burger were the only homemade things but this sauce is more for a pasta than a burger. The burger was ok but charcoaled to an extremely well done level without asking. With just Boddingtons* as the only thing you could get close to an ale, I was barely able to wash the disappointing experience down my throat :)
Worlds first! In this diner pints are more expensive than...
Read moreAte here tonight for the first time in years, and it didn't disappoint. Food was served quickly and with a smile. I should not have had a starter as I could not eat all my main, which was so huge. Very generous portions. All the streaks were perfectly cooked, with overly generous portions of chips, peas, mushrooms and tomato. My chicken and prawns in sauce was delicious but massive. My cocktail was a yummy. Cannot fault any of the food or service. My only advice would be smaller portions, they really were too big, even for my husband who eats like a pack horse. Having ran my own cafe, I know the cost of food and with these portions and very reasonable prices, I'm not sure how they make a profit. My one criticism is the downstairs loo. I think they must have had a leak or flood as it was very damp and musty smelling, not very pleasant at all, but...
