Dec 2023 Returned for Sunday lunch. Lamb was excellent, the vegetarian option was OK. To be honest, there was so much food you didn't really need a replacement for the meat! Yorkshire puddings were not good (heavy, not airy), and service was still patchy (food arrived before drinks, the table wasn't cleared and staff were standing chatting). There was also a problem with the payment system not deducting the booking deposit correctly. I did feel sorry for the waitress as she tried her best to sort it. My overall view now is that I probably won't return, which is a shame. However, if are a meat eater you may well have a very different opinion.
Oct 2023 We visited during the soft launch, so I expected snags. Food was good, cooked with some care and attention and served in an attractive way. The corn ribs and curried chickpeas were excellent. I wasn't so keen on the hot sauce served with the croquettes - it was very spicy and quite sour, neither of which seemed to work with the dish. We preferred the sauce that came with the sweetcorn. Cocktails were great, but the wine was all from Jack Rabbit which was disappointing. I guess you don't generally associate wine with Caribbean food, but I would have preferred more than one brand. Service was rough around the edges, but I'm sure it will smooth out with time. I would expect waiting staff to talk confidently about menu items though. The Sunday lunch looks amazing, so we'll definitely be back. This is a welcome addition to the area, and I'm sure once it's found its feet it will be a winning destination. Judging from our visit, I'd recommend booking a...
Read moreFirst visit having just moved to the area and it was great. Ordered the half jerk chicken, salt fish fritters, sweet potato croquettes, plantain and dumplings between 2 with a couple of pints. The spice was spot on, excellent heat without distracting from the other flavours- this is soul food you'll sell yours for. Jerk chicken was beautifully charred with a spicy rice and peas and red cabbage slaw (nose running hot but delicious) Salt fish fritters were jam packed with fish and served with a mild curry mayo and more red slaw. Plantain was beautifully crispy and the croquettes added a delightful sweetness and squidge (watch out for that mango sauce - scotch bonnet hot!) The dumplings (perfect for dipping in curry) added a lovely carrier for the other flavours (i smodged chicken and rice on mine). Service was relaxed but attentive. Portions are generous and we left very satisfied with no room for dessert. Only criticism was when a birthday was celebrated they upped the music to uncomfortable levels to play stevie wonder happy birthday, it's great to celebrate with your customers but it was just far too loud for most of the other patrons in the room (normal volumes resumed after the song though thankfully) Paid about £25 per head with drinks but cocktails will make it substantially more. A £5 deposit per person is taken when you book but this is immediately removed from your bill when you pay. Will...
Read moreCelebrating my birthday, I popped in for a bite to eat with my family. We hadn't booked so was unsure if we'd get a table but they managed to fit us in after checking the bookings.
Although we arrived not long after opening, the small restaurant soon filled up, with food and drinks galore being quickly brought out.
We ordered Loaded Marley Fries, Mixed Silders (lamb, chicken and salmon), seasoned fries, coleslaw and plantain, Rum punch, Little Lucia (cocktail) a Mocktail and Rum & coke. Service was swift, the servers attentive, polite and really friendly.
The food was 'Jammin' packed with flavour, not spicy, just flavoursome - every morsal telling the pallet to 'Lively up yourself'. Huge compliments to the chefs.
You couldn't help but feel the 'Postive Vibration' as you ate and soaked up the warm atmosphere brought by the accompaniment of 'Roots Rock Reggae' music playing in the background.
Following our delightful meal, the reggae music cut to Stevie Wonder's 'Happy Birthday' and, to my surprise, a fire-sparkling glass of Rum punch was presented to me - such a beautiful and unexpected touch.
3 Little Birds is definitely worth a visit. If you're looking for a quiet romantic place to eat - probably not the place, but if you want great food, great atmosphere, great service and somewhere not too big and packed - this is the place for you. I'll certainly be visiting again to sample more of the menu...
