I ordered the usual naan, paneer tikka and chips on top. The usual man on the phone took my order. I went to collect my order and checked the top of the box but I couldn't see the bottom of the box. I started eating and from the bottom came a piece of chicken. I was livid as I am a pure vegetarian and have been all my life. I rang BB and the man was RUDE and said it was MY FAULT, stating that I asked for the chicken so I said "Are you BLOODY serious" not swearing at him directly! There was no apology given or an offer to change the food and instead he actually put the phone down on me. So I went there with my friend whilst very upset at this point with the box of food and he started shouting across the kitchen saying "I have been in the business for 30 years" and how he must need to clean his ears as he got it wrong in a sarcastic tone. All of the kitchen staff were just staring in shock, the customers at the front of the shop were watching him react in such a way and at this point I got teary. He took the box and replaced it with a vegetarian one and my friend asked "Is this how you treat your paying customers, you should refund her the money back." At that point one of the kitchen staff came to the front to calm the situation and gave my money back and basically told me to get out. This man was rude, he had no real empathy or customer service skills and I wasn't after anything but basic accuracy of my order. To be given meat and then be shouted at by the person who got the order wrong left...
Read moreBombay Bites is one of only a few eateries that define Leicester and gives the city a rare unique selling point. Somehow a meal from here transcends fast food even though fast food is the reason why you visit. The quality of the food and ingredients are akin to your favourite indian restaurants but the price rivals your usual on the go burger chain restaurants. The product itself is a thing of joy yet very simple in construction, a box of comfort food. My favourite is box #3; tandoori chicken greets you when you open the lid on the box, below there is a layer of chicken masala which has perfectly begun to steep into the nann layer below that. If you dig down to the bottom you'll find the rice waiting for you.
I recommend Bombay Bites for any of the following situations: work lunch, I can't be bothered to cook tonight, i want my visitors some cool food, I'm absolutely starving and I need to feel full, let's grab something on the way to football and finally I want some decent Indian cuisine but I'm on my own tonight. I'd not eaten here for over a year or two (regrettable in retrospect) and I recently visited again (on a busy Friday evening.) SOMEHOW standards have not slipped and the food seems even better now than ever before! Photos don't do it justice. I get the feeling I'll be back next week to pick it up again upon the orders...
Read moreBombay Bites normally operates at a very high standard. I've been going since it first opened on Belvoir Street back in 2007. Since that store closed, the restaurant on Braunstone Gate has been sold / franchised and is now under new management and I don't know what to make of it but it appears that the standards haver dropped. The paneer seems to be a bit drier and basically not as good as it used to be. Of even greater concern however is the service. Very poor, at times rude. I called to place a phone order the other day and had someone answer the phone and ask me to wait for thirty seconds which I was fine with. They carried on serving in the shop and kept me on the line for almost three minutes. Eventually I hung up and ate somewhere else. Called to make a complaint and the guy on the phone hung up on me. Service is very poor and believe me, there are enough great places to eat in Leicester that you can't afford to take people for granted, especially someone who has been going 11 years. I will be going back at some point, but I'm posting this review as it needed to...
