I was out doing walkies with my friends and a great way to end the day is to have some fish and chips by the harbour.
Bennetts did not disappoint. It was a busy fish and chip shop. We passed by it 3x and the lines were crazy long. Around 7pm we decided to line up. The queue was moving at a good pace. Outside, I got a good whiff of deep fried goodness which got me all ravenous. Inside, it had booth seats and standard seats and all of them were occupied. On the left hand side was their display of fried goodies. Menu top left hand corner and I got so excited to order.
I had a large haddock ( as a first timer i wanted to go with the classic) some chips and had some of their special squid rings. Light and crispy batter, very moist fish. Im hungry typing this and thinking about it. 😑 I had it with tartare sauce. Also added a curry sauce on the side. The squid was very tender, i thought it would be tough but it wasnt. It was served with sweet chili dip and it was lovely.
In less than 10minutes we had our order and we sat by the harbour. They sell small packets of sauce and they have salt and vinegar bottles you could use. BEWARE of the seagulls. They like to swoop down and steal some of your food. They come in groups and they try to make you look the other way and take away some of the happiness.
They accept card payments. They do walkins. They have...
Read moreBeen going here for a good years now but never again. Visited last night when it was pouring with rain outside. There was no sign up saying the restaurant section was closed, none of the staff at the point of ordering made us aware the restaurant was closed and there were other people eating inside. We received our order, found a table and then started to eat our food. At that point some very rude member of staff informed us the restaurant section was closed and told us to leave. I asked where was the sign informing us of this and she said the staff informed of us this when entering - they 100% did not! Other customers who had been there before us were still eating inside and I asked why aren’t they being asking to leave as well which then caused friction especially given the other customers were clearly very drunk. I proceeded to leave the premises with my wife into the pouring rain outside and told the very rude lady we wouldn’t be coming here again and she simply shrugged her shoulders and said well that’s up to you! Incredibly rude! I like to support local businesses but if that’s your attitude towards a regular customer then I won’t be returning again. I...
Read moreReally disappointed. Stood around waiting for table to be cleared, after the waitress walking past us 3 times I had to catch her attention to ask her to clear the table so we could sit down. When cleared there were bits of food and sauce on the table that the waitress didn't offer to clean up or wipe down so I again had to go and ask her if she could please clean the table before we could sit down. Bearing in mind how small the restaurant is, it was very apparent we were in the way standing up, so this did feel ridiculous me having to keep asking.
The cutlery brought out to us was dirty with old food stuck on the knives of 2 sets of the cutlery. The food was expensive for what it was and the battered sausages were soggy. The overpriced soft drinks were warm.
I've never been to this chip shop before but thought we'd try out a different one. As they say 'stick to what you know'.
Also found it strange that none of the girls with long hair in messy buns and ponytails were required to wear hair nets or caps even when dishing and serving the food. Attention to cleanliness and hygiene would make the high price...
