Now for the bar and restaurant. After being checked in and taken to minutes walm to the cottage, I fimilarised myself with my accommodation and then walked back to the Broad Leys.
Wow, just wow, continued. As I was in Aylesbury and therefore definitely in commuter belt living, i was expecting London prices. Not so. All drinks were reasonably prices and would not break the bank if you came in here for a social night out. In fact where I had just come from, a charming little village in North Devon, one establishment would not give you much change from £20, just for two normal size glasses of wine. Anyway, prices at the Broad Leys are normal. The drink selection plentiful.
The food is fabulous. I had the smoked trout pate to start with, large portion came out from the kitchen, I could not eat it all. I then opted for a sir.ion steak and fat chips. Again large portions which I could not finish. My steak was cooked to perfection. I note while I was waiting for my food what other customers were eating, a few were having the burgers, these burgers were huge and came with chips and salad. The burgers were huge! Almost 12 ounce steaks themselves.
From the moment I arrived I was, at worst, treated like an old friend, and at best as family. I was made to feel immediately welcome and at ease. I had no qualms about dining by myself, and at breakfast the next morning it was as though I was at home. The breakfast, I went for the full English, was again hube and I could not eat it all. My coffee travel mug was happily filled with the coffee of my choice, nothing was too much trouble.
I cannot recommend this place enough. I did spend sometime out in the extensive beer gardens during the afternoon and evening before my dinner in the restaurant, it was spacious and comfortable.
If you are ever travelling through the home counties or just travelling the cou try, you must stop at the Broad Leys, it is a wonderfully pleasant experience all of it's own.
I will most...
Read moreStayed at the Broad Leys for one night so we could enjoy a few drinks at a friend’s birthday celebration held in the Marquee in the pub garden. ||First off, the pub. Really friendly staff and well stocked bar. We had a bite to eat. Maybe a little pricey for usual pub fayre (burger, halloumi fries) but it was hot, cooked fresh and filled a hole. ||One thing to note is it is a dog friendly pub. We did not have a pet but there were a few dogs in the pub garden and at the bar you can buy “dog meals” so they are well catered for.||It was a lovely sunny afternoon / evening so the pub garden and marquee was a great place to be.||Our accommodation was room 2, one of two rooms in a wee side cottage. It was very comfortable, extremely clean and quiet. The bathroom was roomy with ample supplies of soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. The towels were really fluffy. In the room you had tea/coffee. Maybe a bottle of water could be added. ||Our overnight stay included breakfast, which on the weekend was served until 10.30am which was very reasonable. Our server was Will and he was brilliant. He was friendly and took an interest in us. Breakfast (2 x veggie) was served in a reasonable timeframe and was hot, and cooked fresh. It was also a good sized serving so it was hard to eat it all. The menu was also varied, traditional full english, veggie, toast and then egg dishes such as benedict and florentine.||The pub caters for small parties and weddings and you just know they would look after their parties. ||Overall, a good experience and we would certainly recommend both the pub and...
Read moreReally disappointed. Booked for fathers day, arrived and was seated absolutely fine. The place was not busy at all, staff had time to stand around discussing cigarette breaks. Waited 35 minutes for our drinks to come to the table - seems our order was forgotten about. Food took a further 35 minutes to come out and when it did, it was very disappointing. Had the sirloin beef roast - potatoes were rock hard, veg was equally tough and I had half a parsnip and 1 carrot. The beef itself was inedible. It was so raw it was mooing on my plate and full of fat and gristle. I did discuss this with a young girl who works there and she did have a drink taken off the bill for me which I appreciated. Then the young girl took our dessert order or 2 brownies. 30 minutes later and she asked me if I wanted the bill. I stated we was waiting for pudding to which she said she would check on. 10 minutes she came and asked me who took my dessert order. I informed her it was her and she hurried off obviously forgetting that we had ordered. 15 minutes later it arrived at the table. Awful service and awful food which is such a shame as this used to be our favourite local - since changing hands a new chef, it is just...
