RUDE! RUDE! RUDE! Two friends and myself were visiting the Christmas fayre at the castle, when we decided to call in to âCarvell's tea shopâ for some refreshments beforehand.( May I say at this point, my friend had broken her foot two weeks prior to our visit, and was using a wheelchair to get about ) Having entered the shop, the only table available was one right by the door, I tucked the wheelchair out of the way and we sat down. Unfortunately it was very cold and draughty there, so when a table at the bottom of the shop was vacated we decided to occupy it. My friend with the broken foot struggled down the steps followed by myself, we were about to sit down when I heard a waitress say something to my friendâs mother (who was behind us), I asked what was said, but the waitress just glared at me and said nothing, my friendâs mum replied, she said âyou are better off up there!â Well Iâm not usually one to say nothing! but, not wanting to cause a scene, I held my tongue and beckoned to my friends to follow me and we left the shop. Luckily my friend is not permanently disabled, but to be treated in such a way is disgusting and inexcusable! Several lessons in customer service and basic manners are desperately needed in this...

Carvells is a quaint family run tea room, all food and Beveridge's fresh and made to order. We ordered the full Monty high tea for 3 at £11 each. For this we each received a tea pot which made 3 cups, four quite large sandwiches, all the standard choices of filling available, scones clotted cream and Jam and, a very large slice of cake, mine coffee and walnut. Luckily for me it was light as a feather. All of it perfect in my opinion, some may gripe that the crust was left on the sandwiches but not I, keeps them together not wilting in your hand. Service was spot on as was the venue. Highly recommended but one thing to remember, strangely for this day and age they only...
Read morePopped here yesterday for lunch. On first impression we thought it was lovely & quaint. However my husband ordered pork pie with salad, which consisted of a small hard/dry pork pie and a tiny salad on the side, I had a tuna sandwich on granary and the bread was not fresh. To improve the food, perhaps a nice slice of pork pie and a larger salad with more than one tiny cucumber sliced and one tiny tomato sliced with a few lettuce leaves & pickle. The photo of a pastie & salad on a review earlier looks good compared to the salad my husband was served. We would not go there again as not value for money and the food was a great...
