My wife my father in law and I went for dinner yesterday (Monday 7th July) around 07:30 pm.
As soon as we sit down the chair of my father in law was wobbling and he asked the waiter if he could swap chairs. The body language of the waiter was quite off like if he was annoyed about the request.
Minutes later the waiter came to the table and took our drinks order, at that point before even placing our orders my wife informed the waiter that she has a dairy allergy.
After a few minutes my wife grab his attention because she had some questions about the allergens. The waiter came to the table and in a very hostile way shut my wife saying "when you are sure what you want to order let me know and I'll make sure it doesn't have dairy".
We finally decided an ordered some starters, mains, and sides.
For the purpose of understanding better the situation I will list separately what each of us ordered:
Father in Law: Vegetable Samosas - Starter Daal Makhani - Main Plain Naan - Side
Wife: Avocado Chat - Starter Goan Fish - Main Chapati - Side
Me: Chingri Puri - Starter Lamb Shank - Main Plain Naan - Side Mushroom Rice - Side
After the starters my wife asked the waiter if it was safe to eat some of my Mushroom rice to check if they use ghee (dairy product) because she overheard the waiter telling another table that the only rice that was vegan was the plain rice. The waiter confirmed she could have it.
Once the mains arrived we started eating and after my wife already ate some of it, the waiter approach to the table and said to my wife "oh! you know your dish has cream and everything". My wife immediately spat what was in her mouth and started crying and freaking out.
I work in the industry as a Bar Manager in a 5 star hotel in London and I've never seen so much lack of professionalism in my entire career. The waiter not only try to blame it on her, he was also hostile at the same time.
My wife had repeatedly told him about her dairy allergy and tried to make questions and he shut her off saying "I'll make sure your dish doesn't have it".
He tried to make excuses that he didn't know she was going to eat that dish, but she had ordered it, and before the mains came he asked who was having the Shank so he could set the table.
On the menu, it says the Daal has cream so any of the other dishes would have given my wife an allergic reaction. He continued to argue even after we exited, likely to make a show to save face for the other diners.
We had to immediately leave the restaurant and go to the car for her epinephrine auto-injector.
Not only that but my father in law has spent the night until 2am vomiting in the toilet.
I had a fruit fly in my beer and the waiter answer was "they come from outside, there's nothing I can do"
We didn't settle the bill cause of the urgency of my wife's allergic reaction and because we didn't want to come back to the restaurant to speak with the member of staff.
If you want you can send me the bill...
Read moreMy visit to Chutney House was nothing short of a disaster, and I’m genuinely baffled at how this place remains in business. From the moment I walked in, the experience was marred by poor hygiene, terrible customer service, and food that was frankly inedible. The hygiene issues were immediately apparent. The tables were sticky, with visible crumbs and stains that hadn’t been cleaned in what seemed like days. The floors looked like they hadn’t been swept, and there was a lingering, unpleasant odor in the dining area that made sitting there uncomfortable. I even noticed some of the serving utensils looked grimy, which completely eroded any confidence I had in the food preparation process. It’s unacceptable for a restaurant to neglect basic cleanliness standards like this. The customer service was equally appalling. The staff seemed disinterested and borderline hostile when I tried to ask questions about the menu. Our server was curt, barely acknowledging us, and when we raised concerns about the food, we were met with dismissive shrugs and no attempt to resolve the issue. It felt like they couldn’t care less about whether we had a good experience. Even simple requests, like asking for extra napkins, were met with eye-rolls and delays. As for the food, it was a complete letdown. The dishes were bland, greasy, and clearly not fresh. The curry I ordered tasted like it had been sitting out for hours, with a watery consistency and no depth of flavor. The bread was stale, and the rice was clumpy and overcooked. I’ve had better Indian food from a grocery store microwave meal. To top it off, the portions were small for the price, making the whole meal feel like a rip-off.Overall, Chutney House failed on every level—food quality, service, and cleanliness. I left feeling frustrated and ripped off, and I won’t be returning. I strongly recommend avoiding this place unless you want a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant. There are far better options out there that actually care about their customers and take pride...
Read moreWouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants genuine Indian cuisine.
We went to this restaurant this evening to celebrate my Uncles birthday.
We arrived, all was fine. We ordered two mixed chicken starts for nearly £8 each. When the starter arrived there were three chunks of chicken on each plate with three pieces of spinach. Despite the size the food tasted nice so we didn’t mind.
Our mains then arrived, my partner ordered a chicken biriyani and it was mainly rice with four pieces of chicken (which looked the same chicken as the other mains we ordered). I ordered a chicken tikka masala, the chicken was so dry and hard I could barely cut it. I ate one piece of chicken and pushed it to the side, the tikka sauce was so sweet as well. My Uncle ordered a garlic and chilli chicken tikka dish, and his chicken was just like mine.
The chicken was cut in a way where you could tell it was frozen chicken previously and there was no chargrilled marks on it - what you’d normally get from chicken within a tikka.
The sag aloo was boiled potatoes cut in half with spinach leaves, no flavour or sauce.
When we spoke the owner/manager who was not helpful and blamed us for our palate, and that we clearly never eaten an Indian like this.. which he was right we had never had an Indian as bad as this.He was very rude and dismissive and explained other customers were fine with the food they served.
We explained we’re happy to pay for the starters and drinks (despite them being ridiculously expensive - but it is in the centre of Windsor so they clearly take advantage of tourists). We also said we would pay 50% of the food, and at this point he ordered one of the members to “remove all the food”. We still ended up paying £84 for drinks, starts and 50% of the mains in which we didn’t eat.
I’d recommend to save your money and your palate as the Manager told us and go...
