This used to be one of our most favourite pubs in Windsor. Being locals, we visited regularly. It had been a few months since we last visited and we walked into 3 people sitting in the pub on a Saturday night and the music blasting at maximum volume. We had only popped in for a quick drink and my husband out of curiosity asked about a whisky that was on display and was told it was a particular price a shot, and then responded "oh okay, can we please get half a pint of larger". This was his original order. We had guests from out of town this day and our guest asked out of curiosity about another whisky and quickly the lady behind the bar told him he couldn't afford to drink that and should stick to half a pint of larger.

Firstly, we used to go in this pub, and due to it's large whisky selection spend a good amount of time enquiring and learning about the whisky collection, the staff USED TO be really informative and discuss the whisky's with us.

Secondly, how does the bar staff know what we can or cannot afford. On this night my husband wanted a larger as he wasn't drinking as much as usual due to a busy day the next day and whether or not his decision for a larger was financial he should not be treated like that. Due to this me and another of our guests chose not to stay and have a drink and leave.

Absolutely appalled and I hope the management reads this and consider their staff choice...

I saw this bar while walking around Windsor and I thought the art and ambiance was a neat idea. I went in for dinner and a drink and everyone was very friendly. But then things started to go south. It took 25min before someone could take my order, and it wasn't very busy. When the appetizer came (garlic bread) it was dry, as though it had been cooked too long. The main plate, fish and chips with mushy peas, was the blandest I've had in England, and as I travel there often for work, I've had the fish and chips at many restaurants. As I paid the bill and prepared to leave I asked to take the fries to go, as they were the tastiest part of the meal, however the server informed me there were no take-away containers. It was also quite bothersome that they didn't take AMEX. Overall, I would compare my experience to a hipster pub in the US: too much flair and show and not enough service or focus on the actual dining experience. I would really be interested to see if they take this feedback into account so I can give them another try, the staff were...

Went out for a family meal over the weekend. Initially, the pub seemed decent, but upon closer inspection, it wasn’t as clean as expected. Given its pub setting, my expectations weren’t high. However, the food was a huge disappointment. Opted for the Sunday roast, and it turned out to be the worst I’ve ever had. The beef seemed like a cheap cut, likely reheated, and the roast potatoes lacked the desired crunch, suggesting they were also reheated.. Despite the menu promising roasted parsnips, they were absent, replaced by mixed vegetables that resembled the frozen variety you find in supermarkets which was overly boiled and lacked any seasoning (ie SALT). The Yorkshire pudding was overly oily and tasted solely of oil. Our waitress was unable to provide any helpful information about the dishes, especially regarding allergens, which was concerning. Instead of offering to check with the kitchen, she simply stated ‘she didn’t know’. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this pub for a meal. Save your money and dine elsewhere for a...

These serve traditional Scottish meals and was near-empty when we popped in one lunchtime. One beer was off and I couldn't get Wifi working - but we'd come here for a meal. We went for the some of the Scottish favourites (Haggis, Neeps & Tatties / Mince & tatties / Black Angus Burger). My burger had a slice of black pudding atop and a good strong blue cheese whiff about it, the chips were well-cooked and the side salad fresh and crunchy - definitely a well-constructed comprehensive lunch! My colleagues also remarked that their meal was pretty tasty, and was a nice change to have something more traditional Scottish. However, throughout our stay we noticed the place was still fairly empty, not being too popular despite being quite prominent on the main street. In all: a good meal, but not a great range of drinks and disinterested bar staff.

Was here yesterday on a Saturday early afternoon and trying to get a meal ,had to request a menu from the waitress at the bar who while polite and offering to come take our order, never did. Following this I eventually had to flag down a waitress to take our order. Ordered a tea to warm up and got a cup of hot water with a tea bag and a small cold jug of milk which had me having to drink my tea quickly before it got too cold. While the service was not really that good I can't dispute the portion size and food was good hence the 2 stars, but once completed our meal and getting someone to clear the table. No one came to ask if we would like anything else or offer any dessert etc. We eventually had to go to the bar ourselves to ask for our bill. Poor service hence the low stars

The best pub in and around Windsor! I live in Egham, and am working quite a lot, so don't get much of a chance to visit Windsor as much as I would like to. However, whenever I am in Windsor, I like to visit The Piper. I've only been in for food twice now, I've usually just gone in for a couple of drinks. My friend and I were going through their extensive selection of scotch one time before, and it's just fabulous! As I say, I've only been for food there twice, and cannot complain at all ! It's really quite lovely. I had the chicken, ham, and leek pie today. It was DEVINE. Thank you to Karen, Sarah, Jay (and all staff) for their service, and for making me so welcome on the occasions I have been. I will be back, when I can!
