Coffee#1 Newbury — Restaurant in England

Concerned on my Sat morning visit. Shoppers queuing at 09.30, two staff behind counter apparently on a go slow. Queue numbered 17 people. Staff looked peeed off about something. Queue still very long when I left just after 10am. Only then did more staff arrive. Strange goings on and I saw at least 20 people giving up queuing more than 15 mins. Hopefully the management, unless they don't know whats happening of course 😉, will sort this nonsense out soon. Management should note that shoppers will want a coffee before the shops in Newbury open. Unless Coffee 1#(ish) gets its act together they will follow all those going to Paul, where there are no queues! Odd, all very odd... 11/12/18 Up-date, improvements seen star rating upgraded. 10/01/19 Up-date, improvements seen again on waiting time. Seems much better when two staff are on service all the time as opposed to one off doing "things out the back". 2/2/19 Up-date, no waiting, good service and plenty of seats...however it was Sunday and quite early ..before the rush! 8/2/19...so SLOW and NO COMMUNICATION...where is the training??? Down rated...

Probably the best cup of coffee in town, and it also has the best ham and cheese at any coffee shop in town too. So why am I rating it a 3 ? Well it's just some strange service, I used to regular here after my work shift but sadly I just don't get back in time for that and same for if I have to go in early; It has a sign saying that it's open till 6 in the week and open at 8am. (I know on google the close is listed at 5:30 but that's not what is printed outside.. Obviously in need of a change) However I get there on two occassions at around 8:10 and it was locked and didn't seem to be any people in the front of the shop. And in the afternoon (at around 5:30 so I understand they were closing) I was treated a bit rudely with a loud call out for a "We're closed!" Not seeming to show any understanding that they're sign outside is just different.

Service when you get to be there is spot on though, food good and coffee good and so is the speed of service. So if you's going to be there for a lunch break go for it I highly recommend, but if you're in early just before...

I've been here a few times so it's probably only fair that I leave a review. It's been great seeing how much the vegan menu has expanded, and the wraps we had today were far more enjoyable than your average "vegan option at a coffee shop". Though it can get quite busy at times, there's almost always room to get a wheelchair through and the toilets are all clean, spacious, and well equipped.

I would say, the smoothies are served with a paper straw by default, so if that's a problem, I would encourage you to bring your own straws from home, however this seems to be pretty common for most places now.

Three years ago, I had one of the most important conversations of my life here, and I'm really glad to see that it's now an even more pleasant and welcoming place to spend time now than it was then, so that I can make some positive memories here to balance out the very "complicated" memory I have of that time.
