I am doing this review because I felt the Monument deserved a mention. The Monument is a very traditional English town pub, sadly most seem to have disappeared nowadays, especially in Newbury. As soon as you walk through the door you're made to feel welcome by Helen and the rest of the crew. I used to frequent this pub as a youngster many many years ago and it is still one of my “go to” pubs whenever I am in Newbury. Whilst it still retains its traditional feel (which is important in my view), thankfully times have moved on and there is something for most people here nowadays, decent well kept beer, good friendly service, great atmosphere, friendly locals, sport on TV, pool and live music. There is however, still the odd corner to hide away and have a quiet natter with a mate. Whenever I have been in there either afternoon or evening the pub is always pleasantly busy, frequented by both young and old, male and female which is a testament to how welcoming the staff make everyone feel. The live music which is normally on a Saturday night is very popular, for good reason. Definitely worth a visit to take in some real bands (for transparency my band has played here a few times).

There's a lot of TVs to watch and they can show both eg. champions League matches at once There is also a garden for those of you who...
