If you have read my bakery reviews before, settle down you’re in for a tasty treat. I was in Truro, Cornwall doing some research for my new bakery book “All or Muffin” which follows hotly on the heels of my best seller “Bake me up before you dough dough” when I was lucky enough to receive a special invitation to the preopening event at The Cornish Bakery in Truro town centre. As soon as I arrived, I could see a large crowd gathered to peer hungrily through the windows at the fine array of delicious pastries and pasties displayed beautifully on the counters inside. Door management was being efficiently handled by a gentleman called Andrew in a delightful V-Neck jumper that perfectly matched the mustardy brown colour of the Bakery itself, and his enforcer known only as Tina. Once inside, the bakery opened up to reveal an array of happy and friendly staff catering to the queue of eager customers who were spoiled for choice by the cornucopia of Cornish creations on offer. The delightfully bubbly duty manager Ella had her team beautifully organised as they performed their well-choreographed ballet, plating up pastries and handing out perfectly crafted lattes. My order taken I took my croissant and coffee and found a comfortable seat to relax and enjoy the ambiance of this fine bakery. No expense has been spared here either. Wonderful, woven lampshades complimented by artwork from the local infant school adorning the exposed brickwork walls. My table was cleared by a very helpful and cheerful young lady who had a lot to say about tortoises. Overall, my experience was exemplary, and this bakery alone is worthy of its own chapter in my new book. One final point of interest is that this bakery is home to Cornwall’s best kept secret, the location of its customer toilet. It is there, but I was told high-end bakeries don’t have toilet signage. Spoiler-Alert I think the artwork is in fact secret hieroglyphs leading to its...
Read moreStopping off here has become one of my go-to's whenever I come into Truro. It's always clean and friendly with a nice chilled atmosphere even when it's busy so don't let the queue put you off. Nicola served me today, and even though I could tell that they were busy, it didn't stop her from smiling, engaging in some conversation and making sure that I had everything that I wanted, even trying to tempt me with a delicious pastry. I understand how hard and thankless the service industry can be so when someone goes out of their way to make my day that little bit better I feel they deserve the recognition and praise that they deserve, so thanks Nicola for filling my day with a little bit...
Read moreDidn't even end up ordering! ...place simply can't cope if it's busy. Staff have turned disengagement into an art form. We queued for food for ages, so I went to find a table. 4 tables were littered with discarded food, cups, trays plates etc. One had more than a dozen cups, so clearly hadn't been cleared for some time so others had added to it. The floor was caked in food brushed off tables. I asked someone for a cloth so I could clean one myself and I wasn't answered and they disappeared out the back never to return. We cancelled the order for an over priced pasty and left. Avoid until they...
