On Friday 20th November, a group of friends and myself went to The Old Ale House, where one of our party was asked to leave for being too drunk. Our group left shortly after with no issues. We had planned to visit Vertigo next that evening so headed over. We entered the venue and made our way to your outdoor area to find a table so we could go back and buy some drinks. Upon finding a table a tall security gentleman approached us and said "I don't know how the f* you guys got past me, but I'm going to have to ask you all to leave." So as asked, and not to cause a scene we did as we were told to do. Our friend had left an item of clothing on the table outside so we asked if we could retrieve it. When we asked if we could fetch it the security man replied with "I don't give a f, go and f*g get it and get the f out."
The person he spoke to that night happened to be my wife, the night I was out with my friends for my birthday celebrations. That is why I've left this review on Facebook, Google, Tripadvisor and Yell.
I didn't go to Vertigo every week, maybe once every month or two. I went to Vertigo because it had a nice atmosphere, however after the experience on Friday night I'd be reluctant to return. Terrible way to treat your customers. Can gladly say I won't be returning anytime soon. My money will be better spent elsewhere.
(Edit: Upon writing this review the management have seen this and decided to ban us all as a collective, as this review does not meet their expectations.)
The owner should also take note at the very beginning I state that ONE MEMBER of our party was ejected from the ONE and ONLY establishment we'd visited that evening. We entered Vertigo through the front door entrance and weren't refused entry by any of their members of staff. I'd encourage the owner to check their CCTV footage and get the facts correct before replying to my...
Read moreBooked a table online, a few days in advance, for the Thai food as this looked really appealing. This booking was confirmed by email. Arrived on time and the back of the bar was busy. Many staff were at the front and they all appeared surprised we had booked (we were told no one really books a table, even though this facility is on their website) and they seemed to have no record of our booking. One staff member seemed to find this slightly funny. We were told we could sit in the conservatory and have drinks as food was no longer being served as the chef was "leaving soon anyway". Obviously this was not what we expected and we refused to stay, saying this should have been communicated better. One staff member offered to get the manager but we declined as we were hungry at the time and it wasn't clear what this would solve. It appears, looking at other reviews, that this isn't the first time this has happened either. Received a text a few days late saying we did not show up for the table! This place may be fine for drinks, but avoid if wanting food. Turns out it was a blessing in disguise as we had great tapas food round the corner...
Read moreVertigo, ahhhh, where to begin. It all started on a warm midsummers eve when my thirst began to quench and tummy begun to rumble. I, a proud scot, thought of somewhere near me that could relinquish this but sadly nowhere would suffice. Hence I took a short trip down to Truro, Cornwall. What an exciting town - sometimes known as the Manhattan of the South west - it bodes fine establishments and terrific scenery, not to mention steeped in history and culture. Deciding among all these delectable haberdashery’s i stumbled upon Vertigo. A truly cheeky lickle boozer that wowed me from the moment I entered it’s castle. Beers, Burgers and most importantly bloody brilliant atmosphere - Vertigo ticked all the boxes with there quality food n drink and professional and friendly service from staff (in particular one Megan Beynon). Vertigo you did yourself proud and I don’t know if you know it yet but you just set up a brand new bar somewhere very close to me … my heart xx. Lots...
