I was very impressed with this place. They've gone to considerable efforts, to weed out many of the facets of eating out, that one finds are annoying about eating somewhere that isn't 'home'. The idea is genius really. So many little details that would take me quite a while to detail, but cleverly considered when setting up the venue. Everything from the physical venue itself; it's type, spaces, feel, to the way the furniture and fittings have been chosen, and the way the staff interact with customers, take orders and bring them their order, has gone through a rigorous process by someone who has picked away at all the horrid things one usually experiences, that reminds one that they are not at home in their own pad, but in a franchise or business owners establishment, and has tried to change those annoyances so that the experience is more nuanced and homely. Admittedly, I visited with a friend at what would be a quietish time (late morning), but nonetheless, I was impressed that any place at any time could have this relaxing feel about it. Even the staff give a very relaxing vibe which I found rather comforting and rare these days.
One can often feel the pressures of life and work are putting staff in some sort of pressure cooker, in most places. Here, they got on with things and were efficient enough, but didn't give the feel of a military regime. I liked that, and noticed that staff were genuinely happy, not with an artificial corporate smile, tattooed on the face of every worker; but as humans. We do notice these things, though we don't always realise it consciously.
I ordered some poached eggs with avocado on toast, with a bit of bacon, and a coffee (maybe a mocha?). The eggs were perfectly poached in the traditional style (dropped into the pan of hot water, and scooped out when ready). They were pretty much perfect. The whites were cooked and the yolk was runny - perfection in my book, and black pepper was made available, which I like to freshly grind on top. No complaints here.
The fact I haven't mentioned the loos yet, is because I didn't need to. They were clean, maintained well and looked pleasant. The only thing I might comment, is that they were a bit of a walk, and down a flight of stairs. It didn't occur to me to check if there were other ways to access, so I apologise for not checking, but equally, I feel confident that they would have considered accessibility for all. I'll check the next...
Read moreWe recently visited Cosy Club Leicester for lunch, a venue we've enjoyed for brunch and lunch over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, this latest experience was a significant disappointment, primarily due to the poor service we encountered.
Upon arrival, we were shown to our table by a young hostess who seemed quite unfriendly. She seated us right in the middle of two large tables, which was not ideal for our family, especially with two hungry children. I asked my 7-year-old son to politely request if we could be moved to a different table. The hostess replied that all other tables needed cleaning. This response seemed reasonable at the time, but what happened next was quite surprising.
Just two minutes later, another family of four arrived, and they were offered a choice of where they would like to sit. This stark contrast in treatment left us feeling overlooked and undervalued. It seemed like our request was dismissed without much consideration, while others were given more flexibility. We decided to make the best of the situation and stay at our table.
The food at Cosy Club has always been a highlight, and this visit was no exception. The meals were fantastic, and everyone enjoyed their dishes. However, the excellent food was overshadowed by the subpar service. The waiting staff seemed disorganized and unresponsive to our needs.
One of the most frustrating moments was when we asked for the dessert menu. We requested it four times, but no one brought it to us. It was as if our requests were being ignored. This lack of attention to detail and care for customer satisfaction was disappointing.
To top off the poor service, there was an error with our bill. Initially, I was charged the wrong amount, and then the staff came back to inform me that they had actually charged me £20 less than intended. This confusion added to the overall sense of disorganization and incompetence.
Given the combination of rude service, inconsiderate seating, and billing errors, we have decided not to dine at Cosy Club Leicester again. It's unfortunate, as we have enjoyed our previous visits, but this experience was too disappointing to overlook. Hopefully, they will address these issues to improve their...

Staff - Having pondered the menu and made a choice I went to the bar to order the golden glow smoothie. I was told they didn’t have it available. Madly, the bar doesn’t have a menu! So having returned to my table, chosen again and returned, I was then told the morning greens smoothie wasn’t on either. Before returning I asked if any smoothies were available and after she punched the keys a few times I got a “ohh no sorry, seems we don’t have the stuff to make smoothies”. Clueless and you’d have thought the waitress would have told me this when she handed me my menu and asked if I had any allergies! But alas, I observed the same sketch with a family of 6. Staff do not communicate at all and they’re pretty inept.
Place - A nice lazy Sunday morning place with a nice vibe, where 3 of the 12 breakfast options are vegan - vegan sausage brioche bun, smashed avocado and their vegan garden breakfast …
Food - Vegan Garden Breakfast £10.50. Scrambled turmeric tofu, harissa beans, avocado, vine tomatoes, mushroom, spinach, toasted sourdough with vegan butter. It was nice but it wasn’t scrambled tofu at all - it was turmeric on cubes of tofu which were grilled so the edges were hard and crispy. The harissa beans were simply a ramekin of beans with harissa oil on top which made it oily failing to impart any harissa flavour. All in all, nice but don’t expect what’s written on the menu!
Tea £2.55. Nice but having to pay an additional 45p for oat milk over soya! £3 … Really?
Would I return? Probably not because there are better places with better service and I’m likely to get what’s on offer.
Would I recommend? I’d recommend Prana Cafe as they do a better vegan breakfast with more choices and the most fantastic...
